During the opening night of Zayn Malik‘s Stairway to the Sky Tour, he delivered a heartfelt tribute to his late former bandmate, Liam Payne.

The emotional moment took place at the O2 Academy in Leeds on Saturday, November 23, just before the encore performance.

As the stage lights dimmed and then flickered back on, a memorial graphic appeared on the wall, honoring Liam. The display read, “Liam Payne 1993-2024. Love you bro ❤️.” In the background, Zayn’s song “Stardust” played.

This tribute came only days after Zayn reunited with his former One Direction bandmates at Liam’s funeral earlier in the week. The funeral service was held at St. Mary’s Church in England, where Zayn, Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson and Niall Horan were seen arriving separately. They were accompanied by their former tour manager, Paul Higgins, in what fans described as a bittersweet reunion.

Liam tragically passed away on October 16 at the age of 31, following a fall from a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires. In the days following his death, Zayn posted a deeply emotional tribute to Liam on Instagram, reflecting on their bond and shared history.

“Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me. I can’t help but think selfishly that there were so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” Zayn wrote, alongside a nostalgic photo of the two during their One Direction days.

He continued, “When it came to the music, Liam, you were the most qualified in every sense. I was a novice child with no experience, and you were already a professional. I was always happy to know that no matter what happened on stage, we could rely on you to steer the ship.”

Zayn concluded his message with heartfelt words: “I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever. There are no words to justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are, you’re at peace and know how loved you are. Love you, bro.”
