Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates. Love you all and thank you for your understanding.”
Liam died at the age of 31 after falling from a third-story hotel balcony on Wednesday, October 16. He and his girlfriend, Kate Cassidy, had been vacationing in Buenos Aires, Argentina, after the two of them traveled to South America to attend Liam’s former One Direction bandmate Niall Horan’s performance on October 4. While Kate headed back to the on Monday, October 14, Liam chose to stay behind.
Authorities arrived at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel at around 5 P.M. and pronounced Liam dead at the scene.
“According to the emergency medical team sent to the scene, [Liam] had a fracture in the base of his skull [and] extremely serious injuries,” Albert Crescenti, the Buenos Aires emergency services chief, confirmed. The skull fracture led to the “Steal My Girl” singer’s immediate death.
Information as to whether Liam’s fall was intentional or accidental was unclear at first. However, Pablo Policicchio, the communications director for the Buenos Aires Security Ministry, later confirmed that the pop star had “jumped from the balcony of his room.”
Both Liam and Zayn had hinted at tension in their friendship in the past, but the day after Liam’s death, Zayn posted a heartbreaking tribute to his friend.
“Liam, I have found myself talking out loud to you, hoping you can hear me, I can’t help but think selfishly that there was so many more conversations for us to have in our lives,” Zayn wrote via Instagram on Thursday, October 17. “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life.”
He continued, “When I was missing home as a 17 yr old kid you would always be there with a positive outlook and reassuring smile and let me know you were my friend and that I was loved. Even though you were younger than me you were always more sensible than me, you were headstrong, opinionated, and gave no f–ks about telling people when they were wrong.”
The “Dusk Till Dawn” artist went on to mention that even though he and Liam “butted heads” at times, he “secretly respected” Liam for it.
“When it came to the music Liam, you were the most qualified in every sense. I knew nothing in comparison. I was a novice child with no experience and you were already a professional,” Zayn continued. “I was always happy to know, no matter what happened on stage we could always rely on you to know which way to steer the ship next.”
He concluded, “I lost a brother when you left us and can’t explain to you what I’d give to just give you a hug one last time and say goodbye to you properly and tell you that I loved and respected you dearly. I will cherish all the memories I have with you in my heart forever, there is no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace and you know how loved you are.”
