1000-Lb. Sisters star Tammy Slaton moved into a property owned by her brother, Chris Combs, though the preparation process caused a fight between him and his wife, Brittany.
In a teaser clip for the Tuesday, October 29, episode shared by TLC’s Instagram account, Tammy, 38, expressed her concerns about the conditions of her new home. After Chris, 43, told her to keep her “mind open,” shots showed damage including broken tiles on the floor and a dirty sink.
“I hope Chris can finish everything in 30 days,” Tammy said in a confessional. “I don’t know much about, like, construction. It’s like speaking chinese to me or a different language cause I don’t understand.”
Despite her concerns, she added that she was just “thankful to have a place offered” for her to live.
As Chris gave Tammy and Brittany a tour of the home, his wife expressed concerns about a bar in the kitchen. She suggested that the bar be removed so that a table could be put in its place, and the moment became tense when he refused to make the change. “It might be an option down the road to take it out, but not right now,” Chris said. “I’m not taking the bar out regardless.”
As the couple continued to argue about the layout of the kitchen, Tammy appeared uncomfortable and remained quiet.
“I mean, I like the layout. I think it would be a suitable place for me, but I just don’t want them to fight because of it,” Tammy said in a confessional. “They’re doing this in such short time and trying to hurry up.”
Shortly after the clip was uploaded, many fans rushed to the comments section to wonder why Tammy couldn’t afford a home of her own. “It’s sad that they are making it that she can’t afford to be on her own. They have places with assisted living she can move to so she can be on her own. Why should she be living in a place like that. She’s been on this show from the beginning and had her own place,” one person commented. Another chimed in, “I don’t get how Tammy can’t afford to buy her own house? She’s got to have money.”
Tammy moved into Chris’ property amid her weight loss journey. She underwent weight loss surgery in July 2022, and the TLC personality revealed in August that she dropped 500 pounds since the beginning of her health journey.
She’s continued to open up about her weight loss journey both on social media and on the show. During the season 6 premiere on October 8, Tammy reflected on how her life has changed ever since she went under the knife. “Now that I’ve lost so much weight, I’m able to do things that I never would have been able to do,” the Kentucky native said in a confessional. “I think people do take the small things for granted.”
Tammy then revealed some of the activities she’s now able to do since losing weight, including a bathroom activity. “Being able to cross your legs and put your shoes on … I’m able to sit comfortably on the toilet,” she said. “I’ve never been able to do that.”
