San Francisco 49ers general manager John Lynch addressed a potential long-term extension for quarterback Brock Purdy this offseason on Wednesday in a press conference with head coach Kyle Shanahan.
Lynch made it clear that Purdy is the team's quarterback of the future.
"What we know about Brock is that he's our guy," Lynch emphatically said to the media. "We have interest in Brock being around here for a long, long time. He's done so much for our organization. He's won big games."
Lynch admitted that the 2024 season was more of a struggle for everyone in the organization, but he commended Purdy for the way he helped the team navigate the difficult season.
"Had a little tougher task as we all did this year with some of the things that happened throughout the course of the year. We just never could string games where we were all together," Lynch said. "And through that, he continued to lead, he continued to play at a high level, so we have every interest in him being around."
Purdy officially became eligible to sign an extension this week. In his exit interview with the media on Monday, he made it known he wanted to get an extension done quickly.

"I want to obviously get it done," Purdy said to reporters. "If that's an opportunity to be able to get that done quick, that'd be great. Just so we can get back for phase one, get after it with the receivers on our team."
He continued: "Everybody's different, just with the timing of getting something done. For me, at the end of the day I want to win. I want to win with this organization. I'm not the kind of guy that wants to have any kind of drama associated with anything. I want to be very professional about it.
"I want to keep the main thing, the main thing and not get distracted with all the chaos that can go on within it. I just want to be clean about it and respectful. And get something done."
Heading into the year, there was speculation that Purdy could sign a contract upwards of $60 million per season. However, after he and the 49ers regressed in 2024, it's unclear if Purdy will reset the quarterback market.
The 49ers used the final pick of the 2022 NFL Draft to bring in Purdy, a four-year starter at Iowa State. He's gone 23-13 as a starter at the NFL level and led the 49ers to two NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl, where they lost to the Kansas City Chiefs.
After throwing for 4,280 yards with 31 touchdowns and 11 interceptions in 2023, he threw for 3,864 yards with 20 touchdowns and 12 interceptions in one fewer game this past season.
Lynch made it clear that locking down the quarterback position is a priority for San Francisco this offseason.
