As expected, the stars turned it out on the red carpet for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards. From the best dressed to the worst–we have questions Jeremy Strong–here's all the looks you need to know about.
Before we get to that, make sure you're subscribed to the For the Culture newsletter and the Parting Shot podcast for all the coverage this awards season.
From the Golden Globes to the Oscars, we're covering them all.
Let's start with the best gowns of the night. Showstoppers included Nicole Kidman, Viola Davis, Demi Moore and host Nikki Glaser. Wicked stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande continued their domination of red (and sometimes green) carpets. The look of the night though, and the one truly bringing back all that wonderful old Hollywood glamour, was Zendaya.
And that old Hollywood glamour was a bit of a trend this year. While some stars went modern with their looks (Naomi Watts and Tilda Swinton both delivered on that front), nominees like Mikey Madison, Margaret Qualley, and Amy Adams all were visions straight of Hollywood's yesteryear.
The most interesting look of the night goes to Angelina Jolie, wearing a form fitted, long-sleeved, beaded gown that somehow felt both modern and classic. (But are we surprised she's a showstopper? She's Angelina Jolie!)
Here are all the best looks from the 82nd Golden Globes:
There were also plenty of fashion-forward suits on the red carpet. (It does seem like many men have finally gotten the hint that they too can turn a look.)
So many men went for color this year! Andrew Scott and Andrew Garfield were standouts, going totally against tradition with their colorful suits. Other standouts include Colman Domingo, Glen Powell (no surprise there), and Eddie Redmayne.
The look of the night goes to the internet's new boyfriend, Cooper Koch. He wore a traditional tux, but you know what? Sometimes you don't have to fix what isn't broken.
OK, now let's go over some of the less fortunate looks of the night. (And let's be real, this is really what you're here for.)
The worst of the night goes to Jeremy Strong, who seems to be impersonating colorful UK singer Jamiroquai. (And this is a rare moment, because it isn't often men's fashion is this bad that it even comes close to being the worst look of the night.)
Other disappointing looks include Kerry Washington (why so wrinkley?), Ali Wong, and Keira Knightley.
Now, some of the "worst" looks on the red carpet aren't because they're bad, but rather because they're just boring. And in 2025, with access to some of the best designers in the world, a few of these stars really should have tried harder.
Some of the not quite "worst" but boring looks include Kathryn Hahn's strange sweater and skirt combo, which feels more like a lazy day at home look.
You can tell Anya Taylor-Joy was trying to do something, but like, she's Anya Taylor-Joy and could do better. Cate Blanchett's look is fine but like, again, she's Cate Blanchett, we need more! And listen, Jean Smart can do anything in my book, but I want her to dominate the red carpet, not look like the mother of the bride.
