The LA fires have tragically taken another life.

Actor Rory Callum Sykes, who was born blind and had cerebral palsy, sadly died inside a self-contained cottage in Malibu after the Los Angeles fires recently broke out. The Kiddy Kapers actor was just 32-years-old.

His mother has spoken to 10 News First and in a video she said: "He was my baby he died needlessly. Guess what didn't work? 911. All the phone lines were down."

Through tears, his mother heartbreakingly recalled: "He said: 'Mum, leave me,' no mum can leave their kid. I've got a broken arm - I couldn't lift him, I couldn't move him. When the fire department brought me back his cottage was burned to the ground."

The video was uploaded on X/Twitter and social media users gathered to share their condolences. One person defended the mother and wrote: "She didn't leave a kid people, he was a fully grown man. It is a sad fact of life when you are older or disabled that no amount of adrenaline will allow you to pull that much weight."

"This is one of the saddest stories I've heard. Poor her and poor him. She'll never forgive herself and his life was taken by this terrible disaster. No one should have died like that," typed another shocked viewer.

Someone else added: "Tragic story about Rory Sykes. His courage in the face of death is a testament to his character. May he rest in peace. It's heartbreaking to think about the circumstances of his passing. His mother must be devastated."

"We need to make sure we're doing everything we can to prevent these kinds of tragedies from happening in the future. We need to come together as a community to support those who are vulnerable and make sure they have the resources they need to stay safe. RIP Rory Sykes."

Others wrote that the news of his death is "so sad," wished "strength to his mother" and wrote "RIP" in his memory. It has been reported that Rory died from carbon monoxide poisoning.
