EXCLUSIVE: Strictly Come Dancing star James Jordan, who won Dancing on Ice in 2019, says celebs shouldn't shy away from romance on the show as it could help them on the ice
James Jordan believes Dancing on Ice romances are a blessing, not a curse.
The former Strictly pro was crowned winner of Dancing on Ice back in 2019 alongside dance partner Alexandra Schauman. James has been happily married to fellow dancer - and fellow former Strictly pro - Ola Jordan for over 20 years.
The ITV champ says celebs who are "single and ready to mingle" shouldn't hold back if they develop feelings for a co-star during their stint on Dancing on Ice. He believes romance could "enhance the performance" and motivate stars to practice more as they'll want to see their crush.
Speaking on behalf of Sky Vegas, James told Daily Star: “I don’t think having a romance on Dancing on Ice is a distraction. If you're single and you’re ready to mingle, it can only enhance the performances. I don't really look into it that deeply.
"Every year on different shows, people end up getting together, and a lot of the people that have got together. People who have got together on Dancing on Ice have got married too. It has created some amazing couples, who now have children and families. I don't see it as a negative.
“If you did have a romantic relationship or connection with someone, that would mean that you want to spend more time with them, hence more practice. It probably could enhance the performance.”
Love Island star Chris Taylor recently said he wouldn't rule out finding love during his time on this year's series of Dancing on Ice. He said: "Do you know what - it's one of those things, you spend a lot of time with the people that are on the show, you spend a lot of time with your dance partner. If something happens it does.
"I don't know. I mean obviously I'm not great at these things as you can see from Love Island 2019 and Love Island - All Stars 2024. I’ve got a proven track record at being terrible at dating so anything can happen but I just wouldn't back myself for it to happen," he added."
Several couples have found love during their time on Dancing on Ice, including Corrie actress Samia Ghadie and her partner Sylvain Longchambon who met on the eighth series and tied the knot in 2016. Former England goalkeeper David Seaman and Frankie Poultney both had partners when they were paired together in 2008, but they ended up getting married in 2015.
The star is joining a stellar line-up for Dancing On Ice, which starts in the new year. Other celebs taking part include EastEnders' Charlie Brooks, The Traitors star Mollie Pearce, former footballer Anton Ferdinand, TV star Michaela Strachan and Paralympian Dame Sarah Storey.
