Actor Eva Mendes showed that she looks just as good as ever after turning 50 not too long ago. Mendes has maintained she hasn’t had any extreme plastic surgery to maintain her appearance over the years. However, she wasn’t against getting more subtle work done in the past. Unfortunately, Mendes wasn’t too happy with the results at the time.
What Eva Mendes recently said about getting plastic surgery
Mendes has always been pretty open about her thoughts on plastic surgery. At one point, a fan of hers accused the actor of taking her long break from social media because she was healing from her own procedure. Mendes was quick to point out that wasn’t the case back then, while also explaining the reason behind her social media absence.
“I’m not sure why I’m answering you but here I go. I’m posting less because I really want to be present for my family. My little ones need me and posting takes up too much time, As far as getting work done, I’ll do that whenever I please. But no, that’s not the reason. The reason is I personally cannot juggle family and social media. So -big shocker -I choose family. Lotsa love to you out there,” Mendes once said according to She Knows (via Yahoo).
In a recent interview with The Times, however, Mendes confided that she did get some level of cosmetic surgery done. However, the effects weren’t permanenet, which Mendes was relieved by since she seemed to regret the work she had.
“I’m not afraid to try things that are safe, because most of these little treatments, let’s say, are reversible,” Mendes said. “If you get Botox, it goes away if you don’t like it. There have been times where I’ve regretted something … and then you just wait it out.”
Eva Mendes is proud of aging gracefully
One of the many reasons older stars have resorted to plastic surgery is to maintain their youths. The results often vary, but it seems it’s not a process Mendes is interested in undergoing just yet. Even back in her 40s, the Hitch star found herself dealing with comments that pointed out she was getting older. But in an interview with People, whereas some might get offended by those words, Mendes embraced them.
“I was excited by the reaction because in no way do I think that person that left that comment about me getting old was being malicious,” she once told People. “I do not think it was a malicious comment, but I think it’s more dangerous because it wasn’t malicious because it’s just ingrained in society that getting older is something we should either fear or be ashamed of.”
“And I think the whole thing about not asking a woman what her age is, is archaic,” she added. “It’s like you can ask me my age and I will happily tell you, I’ll be shocked, somewhat shocked. I’m about to turn 46 and that’s somewhat shocking to me. But I’m proud of that.”
Mendes, who always tries to respond to her comments on social media, also explained why she didn’t just ignore the follower’s post.
“I wanted to make sure to get back to that person because I had something to say and I felt like, look, you mean this, I don’t think it was malicious but you mean it kind of like an insult,” she said.
Instead, she wanted to let both the commenter and her other followers know that she was proud of her age.
“I want to show you that I take it as a compliment because I’m still here,” she said. “And I have, you know, instead of saying I am 46, I wish we could change it and I wish I could say, ‘I have 46 years to me’ because in Spanish it’s very beautiful. It says you say, ‘Tengo cuarenta seis años’ I have 46 years and in English I know, it’s a little, you know it’s semantics but it’s important.”
