The Alex Bregman sweepstakes is reportedly down to five teams: the Houston Astros, Boston Red Sox, Chicago Cubs, Detroit Tigers, and Toronto Blue Jays.
The race seems to be coming to a close rather quickly right now after it dragged out for weeks. At this point, Bregman could sign as early as this week.
FanSided's Austin Owens cited a report from Michael Canter of Cubs Insider that revealed Bregman may have already made up his mind. Canter believed Bregman was going to sign with the Cubs as early as Wednesday. Owens also noted Canter's report was "purely speculation," so there's a bit to unpack here.

"According to Michael Canter of Cubs Insider, Alex Bregman has already made the choice to join the Chicago Cubs," Owens wrote. "Canter claims to have a relative that is close with the Bregman family and has been informed the Cubs are in agreement with the third baseman on a deal.
"This is currently purely speculation and obviously has not been confirmed by the Cubs organization. Canter states that Bregman's potential contract is for four years and worth more than $100 million and describes the details of the contract as 'unique'. With Bregman reportedly seeking a long-term deal or a short-term deal with a high AAV, this would be a happy median."
Owens is accurate in his assessment. This seems like pure speculation, but the speculation makes a lot of sense.
The Cubs have been trending up as the dark horse in the Bregman sweepstakes for weeks. With Astros' general manager Dana Brown seemingly admitting defeat in the Bregman sweepstakes, the Cubs could land the superstar infielder on this rumored $100 million deal.
