Alison Hammond has received an outpouring of praise for her staggering 11st weight loss, leaving her This Morning colleagues in awe as she flaunted her transformed figure in a mermaid costume on the show. Currently enchanting audiences as the Magical Mermaid in Peter Pan at Birmingham Hippodrome, Alison's second-year performance has been a hit.
According to The Sun, the 49 year old joined Dermot O'Leary, 51, Josie Gibson, 39, and Kate Lawler, 44, via video call. The trio was taken aback when they heard a familiar voice exclaim: "Yoo Hoo! " Kate responded, questioning if it was indeed Alison, who replied with another cheerful "Yoo Hoo! " Alison then made a stunning entrance, dressed in a shimmering blue mermaid gown, and greeted Josie and Dermot.
However, the pair were so dazzled by her appearance that they struggled to focus, both agreeing that their friend and co-host looked "incredible" and "amazing" Kate even exclaimed: "It's mermazing! You look like you are straight out of the Little Mermaid."
Contrary to widespread speculation, Alison clarified that she did not use Ozempic, the notorious diabetes medication favoured by celebrities for weight loss. Instead, the This Morning star embarked on her weight loss journey following the death of her mother, who had expressed concern over Alison's pre-diabetic condition.
Alison, who once tipped the scales at 28st, revealed that her weight loss journey was no quick fix but rather a simple strategy. She decided to cut out sweets and fatty foods from her diet and began working out with a personal trainer, reports the Mirror.
Speaking to Good Housekeeping UK about weight loss jabs, Alison said: "I think that, for people who need to use them, they're a good thing - but for me, as soon as I hear any scare story, I get frightened. So I haven't wanted to use them, but that's not to say I wouldn't in the future, and I certainly wouldn't look down on anyone who did.
She continued: "My mum had type 2 diabetes and she was worried for me, so when I then found out that I was pre-diabetic, that was frightening. I thought: "I have to be an adult about this". The sweets had to stop – and the fatty foods."
"Twice a week, I see my personal trainer and I have a couple of weights in my bedroom. I walk, I stretch and sometimes I do a bit of yoga."
In addition to shedding the pounds, she made the thoughtful decision to sell her old size 26 clothes to raise money for charity in memory of her late mother, who passed away in 2020 from liver cancer.
During a chat with Lorraine Kelly and her daughter Rosie Smith on the What If? podcast, Alison expressed her desire to prioritise her health and wellbeing while managing her busy lifestyle.
She stated: "I want my journey to empower others to think about making changes to their lifestyle to become the best version of themselves."
