Fearne Cotton and Jesse Wood announced their marriage was over yesterday, following years of dismissing rumours that their relationship was in trouble.

Former kids TV presenter Fearne married Reef guitarist Jesse in 2014, after three years together. Fearne gave birth to their first child, Rex, 11, in 2013, with the family welcoming second baby Honey, nine, in 2015.

Jesse, 48, is the son of Rolling Stones star Ronnie Wood, with the musician announcing last year he was leaving his band Reef after playing with them for nine years. He already shares two children with his ex Tilly Wood, Arthur, 22, and Lola, 19 - Fearne had been a proud step-mother to both of his older children, regularly mentioning them on social media.

But ex CBBC host Fearne announced the pair had split after 13 years together, taking to Instagram Stories to share the family's news. She wrote: "It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jesse and I are ending our marriage. Our priority has been, and will always be, our children. We please ask that you respect the privacy of our family at this time."

The news comes after years of speculation among fans as to whether Fearne and Jesse are happy together, with Fearne dismissing rumours as "bulls***". The star also candidly said she doesn't shy away from talking about the good and bad of being in a long term relationship.

"Desperately clinging" to marriage

Fearne has been open about the ups and downs of marriage, admitting that she and Jesse had been going through a "rough patch". Writing in her Red Magazine column, Fearne told her fans: "Love takes hard work - and no one wants to hear that."

She continued: "This year, Jesse and I hit a rough patch - he was away, touring relentlessly, [with his band, Reef]. I was trying to keep my own career going while looking after our kids and we were both desperately clinging on to our marriage."

Fearne later commented on her article to The Telegraph, saying: "I wrote that article to go 'what a load of s**t'. Every marriage takes work. It doesn't dilute our love or make our marriage any weaker, it actually makes it stronger because we're willing to have those conversations."

Screaming row

In 2019, Fearne admitted that the pair were embroiled in a furious public row with each other, which lasted two hours. She spoke about how they "wondered where the love had gone", and both were concerned it may not return.

Writing in Red Magazine, she said: "One blustery and grey day, this culminated in a screaming match in our local park, which lasted about two hours until we both broke and cried. Luckily, my husband is the most emotionally literate person, so we can be completely vulnerable in front of one another. In the midst of this gargantuan row, I think we both wondered where the love had gone and worried that it might not come back."

But Fearne believed their differences brought them closer, writing in an Instagram post that it brought the pair to a "deeper love", with them "chatting up a beautiful storm".

Social media distance

Fearne and Jesse are both active on social media, but their recent posts have shown a notable absence of mentioning each other. Aside from a birthday greeting to one another, the pair haven't posted any photos together for months, with their last photo showing them on their tenth wedding anniversary in July.

They shared a sweet snap of themselves in their wedding attire, with Fearne captioning the image: "If its good enough for the Beckhams.

"It's our wedding anniversary too. 10 years today. And we are back in our wedding outfits (not purple) and @jessejameswood can't locate the shoes."

Fearne's frank admission

Prior to announcing their break up, Fearne had been candid about the couple's sex life, sparking concerns that their intimate relationship was taking a hit - as many married couples find when they start a family.

Speaking on Alan Carr’s Life’s A beach podcast in 2021, Fearne said: “Sexy time hasn’t happened for so long in terms of me going anywhere. I think for me and my husband, booking into the local Travelodge would make us feel sexy at the moment.”
