Andrew Garfield and Florence Pugh experienced "the most embarrassing" sex scene ever together while filming We Live in Time.

The romantic comedy follows the story of a couple's ten year relationship from their surprise meeting, to the unconventional journey they embark on together. Told in a non-linear format, the tale of their relationship shows the heartbreak of grief, as well as the passion shared between the loved-up couple.

One such moment sees them in the middle of an intimate moment, but the pair got so wrapped up in it, they didn't realise they were still acting out the scene on their own. Andrew, 41, recalled the moment he and Florence, 28, were left red-faced together on The Graham Norton Show on Friday night.

Speaking to host Graham, he said: "And at a certain point, both of us, we're both kind of telepathically saying to each other, 'This definitely feels like a longer take'. I look up, and in the corner is Stuart and our boom operator. Stuart has the camera by his side and he's turned into the wall."

He explained that the crew had stopped filming, with neither of them hearing anyone say cut, saying: "[Me and Florence are] looking at each other and trying to stay in the moment, but also we can read each other's mind going 'What do we do? What's going on? Why isn't anyone saying anything?' I said 'It's not my job to say cut' and she said 'It's not my job to say cut' and this was all happening telepathically."

He then looked up to realise nobody was even looking at them anymore, adding: "Then it was Florence in all her brilliance and jubilance went 'Oh my god this is the most embarrassing thing of my life!'"

Speaking previously at the 92NY cultural centre in New York, he added that there was a reason they didn't stop in time. Andrew told the audience: "The scene becomes passionate, as we choreographed it."

He added: "And we get into it as it were, and we go a little bit further than we were meant to because we didn't hear 'cut' and it's feeling safe. And we're just kinda like, 'Ok, we'll just go into the next thing, we'll let this progress, and we'll just carry on.'"

Florence and Andrew have proven their off-screen chemistry while they have been doing press for the We Live In Time, which will be out on 1 January in the UK. Speaking at a press event, Florence appeared on stage, singing Andrew's praises, saying: "Well I wouldn’t have been able to do any of the stuff without the safety that this man had for me."

Reflecting his co-star's thoughts, Andrew said the first time he saw Florence as Lady Macbeth in 2016, he gushed: "It was like seeing this ball of life, this kind of life force, this vital... I don’t know, primal energy on screen."
