Another long-running Coronation Street actor has announced they are leaving the soap.

Colson Smith will be hanging up his boots as copper Craig Tinker later this year after 14 years spent on Weatherfield.

Craig first appeared on the cobbles in 2011, with viewers seeing the character grow from schoolboy to police officer.

But Craig's journey will soon come to an end as Colson revealed on social media that his much loved character will be written out later this year. The Celebrity Big Brother finalist added that bosses informed him of the news a couple of months ago.

Sharing a photo of Craig in uniform, Colson wrote: "Autumn last year I was told that Craig Tinker's time on the Cobbles is to come to [an] end in 2025. I've LOVED every single second of my 14 year stay as a resident on the GREATEST street in the world.

"I feel incredibly lucky to have grown up in, on and around Coronation Street. I've learnt pretty much everything about life from the people who call it home. I'm excited to play out the exit story for Our Craigy.

"For Me, this is just the end of the beginning. I genuinely can't wait to see what chapter 2 has in store for me. LONG LIVE THE COBBLES!"

Colson was inundated with supportive messages from his Corrie co-stars, with Georgia Taylor, who plays Toyah Battersby, wrote: "We love you Cols," while Sally Ann Matthews, who plays Jenny Connor, added: "Grandma loves ya and can't wait to watch you fly! x".

Colson's exit is the latest in a series of departures from the hit ITV soap.

Sue Cleaver, who has famously played Eileen Grimshaw since 2000, this week revealed she has decided to leave Corrie after 25 years. This comes after the character's long-running enemy, Gail Platt, played by Helen Worth, bowed out after 50 years on Christmas Day.

Meanwhile, actor Luca Toolan's final scenes as Mason Radcliffe aired on Monday night as the young character was killed off in a knife crime storyline.

Sue Devaney, who plays the role of fan favourite Debbie Webster, is also confirmed to be leaving Corrie as the much loved character will be diagnosed with and eventually die from dementia.
