Ant Anstead Makes a Rare Comment About His 'Incredibly Normal' Girlfriend Renée Zellweger

Ant Anstead and Renée Zellweger have been together for over three years, and they’ve done a great job of keeping their relationship out of the public eye. Now, the 45-year-old TV host is opening up about his 55-year-old Oscar-winning girlfriend. 

Anstead appeared in the U.K. talk show, Jeremy Vine on 5, per People, this week and shared a tiny morsel of his life with Zellweger. He was asked by Vine about what it was like to have a relationship that was “so minutely gazed upon by total strangers.” Well, the car expert handled the response like a total PR pro.

“I don’t give it any time,” he explained. “I mean, ultimately, it is microscopically examined, I’m sure, but I don’t really think about that. She’s so incredibly normal and I often forget that she’s famous.” Anstead then quipped, “Thank you, Discovery, for your dating services.” The couple met in April 2021 on the set of his Discovery + show, Celebrity IOU: Joyride. Zellweger was honoring twin brothers, who took care of her former publicist Nanci Ryder during her battle with ALS. 

The dynamic duo made their first public appearance together in August 2021 and Anstead opened up publicly for the first time just days later. “Look … everybody knows that Renée and I have become quite close, because we kept it secret for a while, and unfortunately some pictures were taken and put out there,” he told E! News. 

It took until April 2022 for the Bridget Jones’s Diary star to say anything about Anstead to the press which isn’t unusual for the reclusive star. She shared with Harper’s Bazaar that she feels like her late publicist brought them toughener. “Yeah, we do joke about that,” Zellweger revealed. “She’s always doing her best. It made me smile. It made me smile to think on this, yeah, the serendipity of it all.”

Despite their tight bond, the couple has not been rushing to get married. Anstead was previously married to Louise Anstead for 12 years and they share two children, Amelie, 21, and son Archie, 18. He was also married to HGTV personality Christiana Haack for three years and they share a son, Hudson, 5. Zellweger was briefly married to country singer Kenny Chesney in 2005.
