Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood were country music’s beloved couple for decades. However, their world came crashing down after Garth was accused of sexual assault by his former makeup artist in October 2024. Fans continue to wonder if the claims have affected Garth and Trisha’s marriage and In Touch has updates on their relationship.
When Did Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Meet?
The musicians first met in 1987 when they were recording at the same at-home recording studio. Garth and Trisha quickly developed a strong bond, which remained platonic for years because they were in marriages at the time.
Trisha was married to first husband Christopher Latham, and Garth was with first wife Sandy Mahl. The “How Do I Live” singer divorced Christopher in 1991 and married husband No. 2, Robert Reynolds, in 1994. They separated five years later.
When Did Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Get Married?
Once they were both single, Garth and Trisha started dating in 2002 and tied the knot three years later.
In 2021, Trisha opened up about the “difficult” aspects in their marriage with Us Weekly. “I think we’re both very much alphas. We’re both very independent people who run our own ships. Sometimes when two people are driving two big ships it can be difficult,” she told the outlet at the time.
Trisha later added, “For us, it was kind of navigating how do we stay alphas, stay independent, do our own thing, feel like we run our own lives but be a couple. It’s a balance.”
In 2023, Garth sang nothing but high praises of Trisha during an appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. “But as far as Miss Yearwood, I’ve said this before: I found her in a past life; I’ll find her in the next. She makes it fun, you know? She makes it really fun,” he told the American Idol alum.
Garth later gushed about their bond while giving relationship advice from lessons he’s learned. “I think you gotta treat it like a due. You gotta harmonize. You gotta make your partner feel like they’re a star,” the “Friends In Low Places” singer later continued. “And, if not, you’re gonna turn into a solo act pretty damn quick, if you know what I mean. We’re talking about lone fiddler, bass solo.”
Are Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood Still Together?
Days before Garth’s former assistant accused him of rape and sexual assault, he and Trisha dove into the details of the dynamic in their marriage.
“We pretty much don’t spend a night apart. We made a decision when we got married to not be apart. We tour together; we do everything together,” Trisha told Parade.
On October 3, 2024, In Touch confirmed that Garth’s former employee accused him of inexcusable behavior.
Garth has denied his former beauty artist’s accusations and later identified her by name and shared a photo of her in court records.
That said, Trisha subtly shared public support for her husband amid his legal battle. On October 8, the “I’ll Still Love You More” musician shared a throwback photo via Instagram of herself and Garth performing on stage.
“Love One Another. #Vegas,” she captioned the post.
