It's official! autumn is here which brings with it the annual wardrobe switch-up. If, like me, you are looking to invest in a few new pieces to freshen up your look for the new season then you've come to the right place. Let's face it, it can be a minefield of offerings so if you don't know where to start I'll let you into my world of shopping. I'm trying to be more mindful of my purchases, which means investing in staple pieces that I will love for years to come instead of faddy trends that'll date easily.
Investment buys, of course, come with a higher price tag, but I promise in the long run you'll save money. These are the pieces you will reach for time and time again and you won't feel the need to update your wardrobe so regularly, meaning you won't impulse buy. I'll let you into a little secret Ralph Lauren's Relaxed Fit Striped Cotton Shirt, £159 here, is one of the staples I've been reaching for weekly.

Ralph Lauren)Made from cotton, the striped shirt boasts a relaxed fit that can be dressed up or down. Plus you can shop the style in four versatile colourways including green, navy and in a red stripe for £159 here. If stripes aren't for you I also love the Oversize Fit Cotton Shirt, £169 here.
A striped shirt is a classic piece for any wardrobe and can be worn in multiple ways. I've been wearing mine with barrel-leg jeans, try the mid-rise Mid-Rise Barrel Jeans from Free People for £98 here if you are yet to invest in a pair for a preppy vibe. The style is perfect from desk to dinner too, just swap your flats for a pair of metallic heels for a high-low look. If you need any more reason to invest it provides the perfect layering piece for autumn too- simply pop under a chunky cardie or light knit, I recommend the Soufflé Yarn Crew Neck Jumper at Uniqlo here.
Shoppers looking for a budget option, the high street has some great alternatives. I tend to pick up a lot of my wardrobe staples in M&S and am tempted by the Pure Cotton Striped Button Through Shirt, for £25 here. Otherwise, trust me when I say, you won't regret purchasing With Nothing Underneth's boyfriend shirt for £95 here.
