BBC Gladiators fans are hailing Scots star Sabre as the “new Jet”. A second season of the reboot of the much-loved iconic show sees the return of Dundee weightlifter Sheli McCoy, who quickly became a fan favourite last time round.
Sheli suffered a blow in the semi-final in 2024, when she suffered a torn hamstring and was forced to pull out of the last show of the series.
But she’s back fighting fit for 2025, and fans are now hailing her as a contender to take over from iconic original Gladiators star Jet, real name Diane Youdale.
Sheli took to Instagram this week to tell fans she was delighted to be back on screens as she said: “Series 2 Prey drive is HIGH.”
Fans responded in their droves, with one saying: “I was obsessed with jet when I was a kid but she has nothing on you.”
And another said: “Sabre is the new Jet.” One fan chimed in: “I wouldn't mind being Sabre's prey.” While another said: “Goddess.”
Last year we reported Sheli, who owns a gym in Dundee, tore her hamstring while battling a Sheffield firefighter during The Edge challenge as they competed 8m above the arena floor.
Contestants were faced with travelling across narrow beams as often as possible without falling or meeting the oncoming Gladiator.
Sheli was forced to retire from the game when the pair were involved in a brawl before she released her grip. Despite the setback, the keen sportswoman has been documenting her return to the gym online as she prepared to get back on screens this season.
BBC Gladiators returns tonight at 5.50pm tonight.
