A BBC Radio 1 legend said he was axed from the station in a warning to Greg James over his latest prank.

Radio DJ Greg James has been keeping fans on their toes, after he made some striking revelations in recent months, including the discovery of his real name. But as well as this, Greg has been known to "storm off" his own show, following an incident that took place last April.

But on Monday (January 6), the Rise and Fall host was forced to apologise to fans after sparking speculation he would be leaving his breakfast show. The bizarre post had listeners bewildered as it appeared that he would be quitting his beloved BBC Radio One programme, despite being at the helm of the show for years.

In the dramatic satire post, Greg penned: "The Radio 1 Breakfast show team and I were looking forward to starting another year of the show and delivering a load of stupid stuff to get you through the early hours, it's one of my all time favourite gigs. We were told that the BBC was now a partner and wanted us to a do lot of things in a way we were not interested in.

"It seems Radio 1 is now under corporate control and is not the way i remember it being," he added. "Thanks for listening the last few years!"

However, it turns out his post was more satirical, as he poked fun at the ongoing drama surrounding Neil Young and Glastonbury. The legendary rocker caused a stir when he pulled out the festival, believing it had come "under corporate control" of the BBC, before reversing his decision just days later.

While many fans saw the funny side of the joke, some others were less happy with the prank, resulting in Greg posting an apologetic video to his social media together with author Bella Mackie to clarify what was happening. Now, a fellow BBC star has hit Greg's apology with a stark warning.

Taking to the comments section to voice his thoughts, Phil Taggart joked with Greg: "I got binned for playing Joy Division. They've marked your cards with this Neil Young joke," followed by a crying-with-laughter emoji.

The comment by the former BBC Radio presenter was liked by hundreds of people, while others warned Greg of his "confusing" joke, insisting that some people will have gotten the wrong end of the stick.

Phil had been a staple of the BBC's coverage in Northern Ireland after first joining the station as the host of BBC Introducing in 2013. After this, he went on to be a regular presenter on the national radio stations until 2020, when he finally decided to step back from the role.

Still working as a DJ, Phil has managed to land other stints at radio stations including Sirius XM, BBC Radio, ChillDaBeats and Slacker, according to his Instagram bio. He also keeps his relationship with the BBC going thanks to his podcast Parish Matters on BBC Sounds.
