BBC The Traitors fans fume over 'selfish' contestants in latest show challenge

Viewers of The Traitors were left in utter disbelief after witnessing a savage challenge in the most recent show.

BBC's fan-favourite series, The Traitors, made its explosive return earlier this week for a thrilling third season, already hooking fans with a slew of dramatic twists under the watchful eye of host Claudia Winkleman.

Nevertheless, it was Friday (January 3) night's episode that truly threw audiences into turmoil as they watched the contestants flounder in collaboration, with many dubbing them "selfish."

In a momentous mission of the night revealed by Claudia, the players had just 60 minutes to navigate a small boat across a loch, retrieve fuel needed to ignite a ring of fire, and guarantee their safety from eliminationall while attempting to add up to £10,000 to the ultimate cash prize. But the episode's twist had them reeling as two contestants had to be sacrificed in the quest, leaving them exposed to potential murder by their fellow traitors.

The Traitors is heating up

Jake and Charlotte stepped up at the first hurdle, but greed gripped the group when faced with money, resulting in a collective decision to stay on board and abandon a hefty chunk of change, reports Wales Online.

During the recent challenge on The Traitors, the contestants managed to pocket just £5,000, taking their total winnings to a modest £18,000. After the group chose to remain inside the boat, Jake couldn't hide his irritation, later confronting his fellow participants over the decision.

Viewers echoed his sentiment, swiftly venting their exasperation online.

One viewer humorously posted: "The contestants' aversion to actually boosting the prize is so great that this series of Traitors is going to end with the winner owing money to the BBC."

Another fan weighed in with their opinion, remarking: "Wow, they're a selfish bunch with this challenge - no teamwork and they'll have no money" while yet another added: "Immunity is one thing but there'll be nothing to win at the end, if they're not going to also focus on the prize fund!"

Disenchanted, another person commented: "What's the point [of] winning a shield and the prize pot is less than 20K."

The Traitors fans weren't impressed

This edition of The Traitors has been spiced up by the contestants concealing their 'true' selves from each other. Among them is Charlotte, a 32 year old from London, who has adopted a Welsh accent to come across as more dependable, and Leanne, a 28 year old former servicewoman, who is masquerading as a nail technician to avoid elimination.

Keith, aged 65 and recently ejected from the show, disclosed in his parting interview his strategy of hiding his taekwondo skills during his stint a precautionary measure "just in case."

The Traitors is available to stream now in iPlayer.
