Best Dressed at Golden Globes 2025, According to Derek Guy

1 day ago 2

Influential cultural commentator Derek Guy has revealed the men who he thinks were the best dressed at this year's Golden Globes.

As expected, the stars turned it out for the 82nd Golden Globe Awards and Newsweek shared the best looks from this year's red carpet—but we aren't the only ones to weigh in. Guy took to X (formerly Twitter) to share a thread about his favorite looks from the men on Sunday and also revealed how he would improve other outfits from the evening.

Guy's opinions on men's fashion have been followed by celebrities. Guy's criticism of Daniel Craig wearing tight outfits seems to have led the former James Bond star to adopt much baggier clothing in recent public outings.

"Some quick reactions to the menswear outfits seen tonight at the Golden Globes show. Please note that none of these comments are personal. I'm just reacting to the outfits," he posted on X.

Derek Guy's Best Dressed Male Celebrities

Colman Domingo often wows the red carpet—and Sunday was no different. The actor, known for his performances in Sing Sing, The Madness and Euphoria, donned a black tuxedo designed by Valentino's creative director Alessandro Michele. The outfit was accessorized with a diamond-embellished watch by Omega and diamond jewelry by Boucheron.

Guy said the actor put his own spin on a black tie, which isn't something people always manage to achieve.

"Nothing here is a distraction. In fact, the centerpiece is the bow, keeping your eye up at Domingo's face and making him the center of attn. Everything in this outfit works in concert. Outfit still communicates 'elegance,'" he wrote.

Sharing a photo of The Bear actor Matty Matheson dressed in a white Bode suit with black Western-style accents, Guy added: "Domingo and Matheson are some of the most stylish men right now, partly for one reason: their clothes never outshine them. The outfits are unique and expressive, but *they* wear the clothes, not the other way around. Cool funky Western theme here with the bolo tie."

Another man on Guy's best-dressed list was Monsters star Cooper Koch, who wore a traditional tux. He was also on Newsweek's best dressed list.

"To me, that's why there's always room for classic black tie. People think these are 'boring,' but it takes a lot of attention to detail and quality tailoring to get these to look right. Not everyone looks great in a 'crazy' outfit. Clothes have to support *you,*" the cultural commentator said.

Guy was also impressed with Dwayne Johnson, who wore a silk lilac shirt, a jacket in a slightly lighter shade of purple and black pants and shoes. He completed the look with a brooch on his lapel and wore a pair of sunglasses.

"Pretty great. Nothing really pulls or puckers, which is difficult to achieve on this type of build. The lapels are the right width for this frame. I like the sleaziness of the open silk shirt. Necklace and broach add useful visual interest in place of a tie," Guy wrote on X.

Outfits That Need Improvement

Guy, who has been critical of Craig's outfits in the past, thought that this time, the actor wore too much velvet.

"IMO [in my opinion], Daniel Craig's outfit has too much velvet. Compare him to Hiroyuki Senada, who wears a similar outfit but ditches the vest. I think this improves the look, as black velvet can suck up a lot of light. The white shirt here provides some needed contrast," he shared, posting a photo of the two men.

Guy was also critical of the outfit worn by Scottish actor Jack Lowden, who donned a black asymmetrical dinner jacket which he paired with tailored trousers.

"Not a fan of these unusual double-breasted jackets made with one or two button closures. I don't think it improves on the traditional design. The lapels are also too narrow for his frame and the shoes are too inelegant for the outfit," he said of the look.

Sharing a picture of Glen Powell with his parents, Guy added: "Many single-breasted black tie outfits nowadays would be improved by the addition of a waist covering (in ready-to-wear, this will most likely come in the form of a cummerbund). This covers the white shirt fabric that peeks out from beneath the coat's buttoning point."

Guy didn't offer any advice for Succession star Jeremy Strong, who wore a mint velvet suit with a matching bucket hat and a white turtleneck underneath.

Sharing a picture of the actor alongside a photo of a teal Tiffany and Co bag with a bracelet with "mom" engraved, Guy simply wrote: "This looks like the only thing I can afford at Tiffany's. Sorry mom."

The internet personality was critical of Dax Shepard's attempt at a spin on a black tie. Shepard, known for his roles in Parenthood and Idiocracy, attended the Golden Globes with wife Kristen Bell.

"Sometimes guys want to put their own spin on a black tie," Guy posted. "But when it's something like these sneakers, it feels ham-fisted. The shoes end up being a distraction, drawing your eye downward. Long black tie with a black suit looks funeral-esque. Needs a bow tie."

Critiquing French director Jacques Audiard's outfit, Guy said the "armholes are too low, sleeves are too narrow, and black tie rig demands a black bow tie, not a long tie. Hat is again not elegant enough for this ensemble."

Sharing a photo of Nobody Wants This actor Adam Brody, who wore a teal suit with a black bow tie and a white rose boutonniere on his lapel, Guy wrote: "Would look better with a slightly lower buttoning point, which would allow the tailor to give him more waist suppression (achieving a more V-shaped silhouette) and elongate the lapels (which, as is, look a little stubby)."
