Rapper and social media star Bhad Bhabie has said she is "OK" after previously revealing she has been on cancer medication.
The 21-year-old rapper, whose real name is Danielle Bregoli, rose to fame after appearing on an episode of Dr. Phil in September 2016 alongside her mother. While on the program, she said the words "Catch me outside, how 'bout that?" which became a part of the pop culture lexicon at the time. She leveraged this viral moment into a rap career, releasing songs such as "Gucci Flip Flops" and "Bestie."
Now she has shared a health update after being approached by a Daily Mail paparazzo outside of Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday.
The rapper told the photographer she was "not prepared" for the interaction but when she was asked how she was "holding up," she said she was doing "OK" before heading inside the airport.
Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Bregoli for comment on Tuesday outside of normal business hours.
This interaction comes after Bregoli responded to those online who had been commenting on her appearance. The 21-year-old took to her Instagram story on November 7 to reveal she has been on cancer medication, which has resulted in her losing weight.
"I'm sorry my cancer medicine made me loose weight. I'm slowly gaining it back. So stop running w the worst narratives [sic]," she wrote.
Bregoli hasn't previously spoken of having cancer, nor has she commented any further on the revelation in her Instagram Story. However, her mother, Barbara Ann Bregoli, posted a video to her personal Instagram page slamming gossip blogger Perez Hilton, who she claimed suggested that her daughter may be lying for attention.
Barbara Ann Bregoli expressed that she was "pretty heated right now at Mario, aka Perez Hilton for going on YouTube and talking about my daughter releasing on her Instagram Story about her having cancer and saying he wouldn't pass it by her that she was making it up."
She called Hilton a "vile piece of s***" and instructed him to "Go find another way to make some money besides talking s*** about other people."
The mom continued: "How dare you. And, I pray to God that none of your children never get cancer, OK? I've had it twice. How dare you say my daughter is faking this."
Newsweek emailed a spokesperson for Hilton for comment on Tuesday outside of normal business hours.
After Barbara Ann Bregoli shared her post, Hilton posted a follow-up video to YouTube, explaining why he made his previous comments. He also said he wasn't going to apologize.
"I'm raising my hand. I was one of the people that tried to delicately pose the question, 'Is it possible that Bhad Bhabie is lying about having cancer for attention?'" he shared.
"I think that was a very reasonable thought. Her mother, however, disagrees."
He added: "Listen, I'm not sorry, I'm not going to apologize for posing a question that I thought was credible given who she is and what she does.
"I also wished her sincerely the best and I continue to do that. She is so young, a new mother, and I fully wish for her to have a speedy and whole recovery, full recovery.
"May she be the picture of health as quickly as possible. All of the positive vibes to you and to her mother as well, this must be hard for the whole family."
