Boris Johnson branded 'so cheap' as he plugs his new book during US election coverage

Boris Johnson got a ticking off for shamelessly promoting his memoir during a guest spot on Channel 4's US election show.

Mere minutes into the live broadcast of 'America Decides: US Presidential Election', co-host Krishnan Guru-Murthy told the ex-PM to "put it away" and demanded "stop it, enough" as Boris twice tried to plug his new book, even attempting to flash it to the viewers.

Guru-Murthy slammed Johnson's stunt as "so cheap". Johnson cheekily hit back: "There’s absolutely nothing you can do to stop me... I’m allowed to plug my book." Channel 4 viewers loved former Strictly Come Dancing star Guru-Murthy for calling the former Tory leader out on national TV.

"Shameless grifter and disgraced former PM Boris Johnson is called cheap by Krishnan Guru-Murthy as he keeps plugging his massive flop of a book," one wrote on Twitter (X) as the moment aired, with others revealing their disapproval at Johnson even appearing on the broadcast at all.

"Channel 4 would have been my go-to for the US Presidential Election results tonight but unfortunately they invited the lying charlatan Boris Johnson on to talk up his bosom buddy Trump," one fumed. "Quite cute of Channel 4 to wheel out a self serving charlatan and liar like Boris Johnson to defend Trump all night on @c4news #USAElections2024 #borisjohnson," another raged, as a third stated: "Channel 4 have f*cked this up by having Boris Johnson on their election coverage."

Johnson, 60, has been busy hyping up his latest work, 'Unleashed', which dropped last month. The hefty 784-page tome delves into his tenure at Downing Street from 2019 to 2022, covering major events like Brexit and the coronavirus crisis. News anchor Guru-Murthy is steering Channel 4's first all-night US election coverage since '92 with ex-Newsnight host Emily Maitlis by his side.

They'll be joined in the Washington DC studio by political commentators and celebs, including Boris, as America chooses between Democratic hopeful Kamala Harris or incumbent Donald Trump. The guest list boasts names like Republican ally and TV personality Caitlyn Jenner, and Stormy Daniels, who was embroiled in Trump's hush money scandal following their alleged affair.
