Fast forward to December 2021, Baena got down on one knee after ten years together.
Keeping it quiet, they tied the knot quietly and away from the public eye. In a nod to her beau on Instagram, Plaza referred to Baena as her "husband" in May 2021 while beaming with pride over their joint project Spin Me Round. She gushed about her hubby's new film project in Italy, writing: "So proud of my darling husband @jeffbaena for dreaming up another film that takes us to Italia to cause some more trouble [devil emoji]," as she revealed they were collaborating on Spin Me Round. Throughout their relationship, they have largely stayed under the radar, keeping their love story out of the limelight and deciding not to have kids.
Jeff, a Miami native, later became a New Yorker to chase his dream at film school, ultimately setting his sights on becoming a filmmaker in Los Angeles. It was with Life After Beth that he made his mark as a director alongside his now-wife.
Reflecting on his directing debut in a 2014 interview with Seensome, Baena confessed: "It’s all I ever want to do; it felt really comfortable and fun. I’ve been a writer for twelve years now and it was always a means to an end, I never wanted to be a writer, I wanted to be a director so this was always my intention and it felt right."
