Pets are undeniably part of the family, so it's only natural to consider inviting them to a wedding. But based on a recent TikTok video, it's easy to see why some might think twice about including them in the big day's events.
Racking up 719,000 views, the clip shows Hazel, a brown Labrador, falling asleep while traveling in a car—apparently after her owner's wedding. The footage then skips to a slideshow of images showing exactly why she is so tired.
Hazel can be seen running and rolling all over the beach where her owners tied the knot, even jumping for joy in one shot. She is also shown jumping on her owner's white dress, but the bride remains unfazed, noting in the caption: "Wedding day zoomies are the best."
The new wife, who goes by @saysayvance on TikTok, encourages other engaged couples to consider her video as a "sign" to include their furry friends on their big day.
At the time of writing, the November 8 video has over 138,000 likes and almost 170 comments.
"The body slam at the end LOL," said one user, referring to the image of Hazel leaping onto the back of her owner's dress.
"My lab would be IN the water, but as long as he's happy," said another, to which Hazel's owner responded: "Oh, she was in it, out of it, rolling in the sand, and back in it, but I wouldn't have had our day any other way!!"
Another user wrote: "Personally, I always get bored at weddings, so this would have made it so much better."
Indeed, dogs are welcomed by wedding guests—or at least dog owners believe so. A 2022 study found that 76 percent of respondents thought their guests would react positively to having dogs involved in a wedding.
The study, which surveyed 2,000 dog owners, was commissioned by Amazon Handmade and conducted by OnePoll. It said that 60 percent of respondents knew someone who had included their dog in their wedding.
But it doesn't end there—canines are more than just guests. In some cases, they play a role and, more important, take on a responsibility.
The most popular roles for dogs on the big day were ring bearer (50 percent), flower girl (17 percent) and page boy (13 percent).
But being on the wedding guest list isn't for every pet. Zoe Burke, a wedding expert and editor at Hitched.co.uk, previously told Newsweek: "Not all dogs are going to be comfortable with all the things a wedding entails: the loud music, the large groups of people hanging around, the lack of comfortable places to take a rest. So there is a lot to consider first."
