Actor Max Macmillan is adored for playing Timothy Turner in the hit BBC period drama Call the Midwife.

Max first appeared on the much-loved BBC period drama in 2012 when his character was introduced during the first Christmas special as Doctor Patrick Turner’s (Stephen McGann) mischievous, though kind-hearted, son.

During his first scene, Timothy is a young schoolboy and waits for his dad in the car whilst he attends to an older lady in dire need of medical attention.

He was also a boy scout who got involved in Nurse Chummy's (Miranda Hart) Christmas nativity giving his dad a look of pride as he performed the violin.

Fans of the period drama will know, Timothy's real mum, Mrs. Marianne Turner, passed away from cancer sometime in 1957, as explained in the 2012 Christmas special, and he now regards former nun Shelagh as his mum after she married his father.

During the show's season 10 finale, which aired in May 2021, Timothy prepared to leave home to join a medical school in Edinburgh, following in the footsteps of his GP dad and said goodbye to his siblings and his mum Shelagh Turner (Laura Main).

Timothy returned from Edinburgh in series 11 with a case of glandular fever, but he jumped into action following the train crash which nearly claimed the life of Doctor Turner and Sister Julienne (Jenny Agutter).

Call the Midwife fans have seen Timothy grow from a young lad all the way up to a young man in series 13 who is now training to be a doctor like his father Doctor Turner. However, he is yet to arrive in series 14 which is currently airing on BBC One.

As Max started his acting career on Call the Midwife, the actor has not appeared in many other series. However, he did star in a short film called The Night To Come.

In 2019, Max has appeared as Peter Stemp alongside Tim Roth and Clive Owen in The Song of Names, a film about two boys who bond over their love of music.

Max's mother is the internationally bestselling author author Gilly Macmillan, who writes thriller books. She has eight published novels including The Manor House, The Perfect Girl, The Nanny, and The Long Weekend.

Call the Midwife currently airs every Sunday at 8pm on BBC One and iPlayer
