Carrie Underwood might be a superstar on the stage, but her latest gig has stirred up more than just applause.
The 41-year-old country music icon has agreed to perform at President Donald Trump's inauguration — scheduled for Monday, January 20 in Washington, D.C. — sparking a whirlwind of reactions from her fanbase.
In a statement obtained by CNN on Monday, January 13, Underwood expressed her excitement in performing "America the Beautiful," seeing it as a chance to bring people together.
"I love our country and am honored to have been asked to sing at the Inauguration and to be a small part of this historic event," the Grammy-winning artist said. "I am humbled to answer the call at a time when we must all come together in the spirit of unity and looking to the future."
However, not all of Underwood's fans felt the unity vibe.
"Shame on you Carrie (unless you sing 'Before He Cheats' at the inauguration)," one person wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
"Carrie Underwood is performing at Trump's inauguration so I'm blocking her on all apps and boycotting all her music 😡," another declared.
"Wow her career really must have hit rock bottom if this is what she has to resort to," a third added.
Yet, amid the backlash, plenty of voices chimed in to support the "All-American Girl" singer's decision to perform.
"Some people need to grow up! I'm so proud of her and cant wait to see her perform," commented a fan.
"Carrie Underwood is an amazing singer, devout Christian, has been married to her husband who is also a devout Christian, has never had a scandal and raises her kids with her husband. People on the left are canceling her for performing 'America the Beautiful' at Trump's inauguration. For simply singing a beautiful song at a presidential inauguration," added another.
Underwood rose to fame after winning season 4 of American Idol in 2005, quickly becoming one of country music's biggest stars. Years later, she tied the knot with NHL player Mike Fisher in 2010. Together, the pair share two sons: Isaiah, 9, and Jacob, 5.
