A cleaning influencer has wowed her followers with her unconventional method for getting rid of carpet stains from stairs.
Anna Louisa, also known as @anna_louisa_at_home, used an unconventional utensil to scrub away stubborn grime, leaving a number of her fans baffled.
In a recent TikTok video, Anna shared how she utilises a saucepan lid as a way to cover more cleaning space on her stairs.
You’ll also need a cloth which can be used to clean carpets.
Anna wrote in the caption: “Stair cleaning hack. I was quickly humbled because I thought my stairs looked pretty clean to start with!
“Add 1/2 a litre of warm water, 1tbsp of bicarbonate of soda and 1tbsp dish soap into a bowl. Wet and ring out a cloth and tie it around a saucepan lid and scrub the stairs. (Rinse, ring out and re-tie the cloth every couple of steps).”
Mix the water, baking soda and washing up liquid into a bowl, before placing a cloth suitable for cleaning carpet into the cleaning solution.
Make sure to ring out the cloth, tying it around the saucepan lid.
You can use the cloth-lid contraption to scrub away any dirt or stains.
You’ll need to re-rinse the cloth in water after every few steps.
Bicarbonate of soda - aka baking soda - and washing up liquid are a winning combination for breaking through stains and grime, even on carpets.
This is due to the baking soda working as a mild abrasive, which helps to loosen and lift dirt particles from stains.
On the other hand, washing up liquid, which contains surfactants, helps to surround and encapsulate the dirt, allowing it to be easily wiped away with water.
In essence, the baking soda works as the scrubbing power, while the washing up liquids lifts out the dirt out of the affected area.
Dr Oetker explained that bicarbonate of soda is a mild alkali, which helps to easily break down grease and dirt.
It also has the ability to absorb any odours and neutralise them.
This works because most unwanted smells in the air contain some sort of acid.
As an alkali, baking soda reacts with those acids and neutralises them.
Anna’s video has been viewed over a massive 403,200 times, receiving 4,764 likes and 57 comments.
@linz1978 stood by the hack, saying: “I do this on my steps and all my fabric furniture...works great and smells amazing.”
Veronica wrote, “What a great idea,” while Sophie agreed, “Love this hack!”
JK asked: “What do you do with leftover soap on the stairs?”
Anna explained: “There is the tiniest amount of dishsoap in the water but you can go over the stairs again with just warm water.”
