Driving for extended periods often leads to discomfort in the knees and legs for many motorists, especially when travelling long distances home for Christmas.
However, something so simple as repositioning your heel might hold the solution to the issue making for a much more pleasurable drive.
Experts at Motor Match are showcasing a nifty 'heel hack' aimed at easing joint stress when behind the wheel. They point out: "Many drivers are unaware that their foot positioning while driving can cause knee and leg pain.
"Typically, drivers rest their heel to one side of the brake pedal, often at an awkward angle. This positioning causes unnecessary strain, as it forces the foot to pivot unnaturally between the brake and accelerator, which can lead to overextension of the knee joint and tightness in the muscles around it, especially during long drives."
They recommend: "If you want to avoid discomfort during long drives, try placing your heel in the middle between the brake and accelerator pedals.
"This small change makes it easier to move between pedals and reduces the strain on your knees and ankles. This can be especially helpful for taller drivers who often feel cramped in smaller cars."
