Coleen Rooney is set to struggle in the I'm A Celebrity jungle when it comes to eating trials - as she couldn't even stomach liver as a kid growing up.

The wife of former footballer Wayne is one of the stars heading out to Australia in the next few days ahead of the ITV series starting next week.

Amongst the most common trials all contestants face is eating trials with dishes including camel and sheep udders, crocodile anuses and fermented duck eggs.

Looking back on her diet as a youngster in her autobiography last year, Coleen admitted she struggled with some family meals. She said: "My dad had boxed from a young age, so got in the habit of sticking to a healthy diet. It wasn't anything extreme, just what he saw as well balanced, but we all ate the same thing on a particular day of the week - every week.

"The menu was written on paper and stuck on the larder door so we all knew what was coming. For example, Monday might be scrambled eggs for breakfast and chicken for dinner. Tuesday would be something completely different for all three meals, but as a family, we all ate the same.

"Wednesdays, it was liver, which, as kids, we hated. I managed to get through mine when I had to by drowning it in mint sauce, but that's what we got. And back then, it was a case of 'eat what you're given'.

"I had a friend, Kelly, whose mum Debbie, was friends with my mum. "Sometimes on a Wednesday, Debbie would ask me 'you coming to ours for tea tonight Coleen? I'm doing spaghetti bolognese'.

"'Oh yeah, please, ask my mum if I can come to yours tonight, will you?'. She knew I hated liver night, and this was the only way to avoid it."

An ITV source said Coleen was in for a tough time if she was picked to do an eating trial. They added: "Some of the things we have got lined up in this series will make liver look like McDonalds. They will be hard for anyone to stomach."

Coleen is also set to use I'm A Celebrity as a springboard to further TV work and other business opportunities. She is keen to move on from the court case which saw her dubbed 'Wagatha Christie' after she used to a trap to catch Rebecca Vardy leaking stories about her family. Vardy denied the allegations and took Coleen to court but then lost.

At the end of Coleen The Autobiography which was published in November last year, she spoke of wanting "new projects" of which the jungle is expected to be the first of many TV opportunities.

She has posed for Vogue in 2005 and 2023 and Coleen concluded: "So much has happened between the first Vogue shoot in 2005 and this new one. Not all of it's been good, some of it's been bloody awful, but so much of it has been amazing and beautiful. That's the stuff I want to hold on to and take forward, not the bad stuff. Let's leave that where it is eh?

"The first Vogue feature opened many doors for me; offers and opportunities I'd never have dreamed of came my way. Now, I keep thinking - hoping - that it will be the same again this time, that there will be other opportunities, new dreams to fulfill. I'm certainly ready to step back into the world of work and tackle some new projects. It's one of the things I'm looking forward to most. I'm excited.

"It's funny, I looked back at the 2005 Vogue interview recently, and as older and hopefully wiser as I am, I could still see so much of the woman I am today. I've learned a lot, but deep down, I've not changed all that much. Is that a good thing? Yeah, I think it is."

Coleen will be joined by a real mix of celebs in the camp. Others thought to be included in the line up are Boxing legend Barry McGuigan, Radio 1 star Dean McCulloch, former X Factor judge Tulisa Contostavlos and McFly star Danny Jones.

TikTok star GK Barry is also expected in camp as well as former Strictly Come Dancing champion Oti Mabuse. DJ Melvin Odoom, radio DJ the Reverend Richard Coles and Coronation Street star Alan Halsall.

  • The new series of I'm A Celebrity...Get Me Out Of Here starts on ITV on Sunday November 17 at 9pm.
