Coronation Street star Sue Cleaver, 61, has unveiled her straightforward tip for shedding an impressive three stone: she stopped sipping red wine while cooking dinner.

Best known for her role as Eileen Grimshaw on the hit ITV soap since 2000, Sue has openly discussed her weight loss journey and the health issues that have spurred her on.

Over recent years, she's managed to drop three stone, largely crediting this achievement to a minor change in her daily routine, according to The Mirror.

Speaking with Woman Magazine, Sue revealed that after acing Dry January, she decided to give up alcohol for good. She highlighted how crucial it is to be aware of the calorie content in our drinks. Reflecting on her time in I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out Of Here, she remarked: "I lost 18lb. I'd already lost a stone and a half that year because I gave up booze."

"I did Dry January and then I decided to carry on. I know it sounds ridiculous at my age, but I never really thought about how many calories I was consuming when I was having a glass of red wine while cooking dinner and then a couple more while eating it. If you're doing that four or five nights a week, that's a lot of calories."

Sue spoke to Kaye Adams on the 'How to be 60' podcast about her tough times during Covid. She shared: "In the pandemic we all over-did things. I spent a lot of it drinking lots of lovely red wine and I put on a lot of weight doing it. Then I did dry January and I thought. 'I wonder what life would be like if I stopped completely?"

On Loose Women, Sue talked about feeling shamed for losing weight and said her health was the reason. She explained: "My weight has been up, down, all over the place... a lot of it was helped by red wine. At the minute, I am a lot thinner but I've been ill this year, and for some reason my metabolism just seems to have changed."

Sue also addressed false claims that she used diet gummies for weight loss. On Instagram, she told her followers: "I'm really, really sad that I have to actually make this video. I've had quite a lot of messages over the last couple of weeks asking me about Keto gummies."

She continued, debunking the scam: "There's obviously some scam going around saying that I lost weight using Keto gummies... well it's cr*p. It's a scam. And if you've been taken in by it I'm so, so sorry. It's outrageous. I just want you to know that I would never, ever advocate anything like that," she said.
