The former EastEnders star said 'the tubby little geezer' he plays in The Rivals has won him an army of female fans because he looks like 80s comedian Bob Carolgees
Danny Dyer has revealed his latest role has made him a heart throb because he looks like 80s comedian Bob Carolgees.
The former EastEnders star said “the tubby little geezer” he plays in The Rivals has won him an army of female fans.
He said his character Freddie Jones, for which he wears a toupe and has a thick moustache, has become a fantasy figure.
He said: “I’ve become some kind of w*** material for middle- class, middle-aged women.
“I look like f***ing Bob Carolgees.”
Dyer, 47, stars as self-made tech tycoon Freddie Jones in the Disney+ drama which also stars Poldark’s Aidan Turner and Alex Hassle.
His wig and moustache give him an uncanny resemblance to puppeteer and comedian Bob Carolgees, 76, who became famous in the 1980s with his puppet creation Spit the Dog.
Speaking in the December issue of GQ magazine, Dyer added: “I’m so proud. Because when you look at Fred you go, ‘Aww, look at this little tubby geezer with a moustache.’
“So I’m really proud of myself that I’ve done something with my eyes and my acting that’s made people think he’s attractive.”
Dyer, who shot to fame playing a football hooligan in the movie The Football Factory in 2004, has won rave reviews for his acting in The Rivals which is set in teh world of regional TV.
The news comes after the EastEnders legend netted a big-money deal to star in a new advert for bookies Paddy Power. It’s all about footie fans sticking with the same team for life, so producers on the promotion decided to turn Danny into a pensioner for it.
To pull it off he had to spend three-and-a-half hours getting prosthetics put on his face. It’s the most shocking look he’s ever had in his years in the spotlight.
