Dark Side of Reality TV has, for eight episodes now, shone a light on some of the most shocking revelations from the world of reality television. Despite revolutionizing TV in the 21st century, reality TV isn’t without its “dark side.” In Episode 9, the VICE TV series swings towards the Real Housewives franchise. One of the former Bravolebrities speaking out on the show is Real Housewives of New York alum, Aviva Drescher. “I feel like we are like gladiators with tits,” Aviva says. “We are in an arena with millions of people watching. That’s what it feels like, being involved in the drama on Real Housewives; it feels like you’re a gladiator with tits.”
“The goal is to make us look bat-sh*t crazy,” she continues. “And if you didn’t produce drama, you were gonna get fired.” That last claim is a bold one, but it is something that has been echoed by others; especially those who have been a part of the so-called “Reality Reckoning,” which dominated headlines in the first-half of 2024.
Of course, Aviva was someone who did perform for the cameras. In one particularly memorable scene, Aviva removed her prosthetic leg and threw it. She was hoping to hammer home the point that she was being authentic. For many, it did the opposite and felt premeditated. It was a moment that will live on in reality TV infamy.
Aviva isn’t the only Real Housewives alum starring in the episode. Vicki Gunvalson will also appear, as well as Jeana Keough and Cynthia Bailey.
