Comedian David Walliams has insisted "offence and shock is exciting" as he plans to bring controversial show Little Britain back.

The former Britain's Got Talent judge co-wrote and starred in the BBC Three sketch show with Matt Lucas, 50, from 2003 to 2006. Little Britain began as a radio show in 2000 and ran as a television series for three years. David recently confirmed the idea of a potential reunion as he revealed there are plans for a live tour.

In 2020, David insisted that comedy should not be censored and no gag should be off limits after his sketch show faced allegations of racial stereotyping. He has now revealed how he would revisit Little Britain in 2024. He shared: "Offence and shock can actually be quite exciting. The comedy I grew up with, whether it's Mel Brooks or Monty Python... I love being shocked.

"I mean, offence is a bit of a different thing, isn't it, and as a white, middle aged man things don't offend you in the same way as they might if you were a member of a minority group. But at the same time, I think comedy has got to be playful. And the thing is, if you’re worried every time you make a joke… You have half a second to decide with the thing you're going to say, you should say or not."

The comedian wants to bring back his show Little Britain

When speaking on Ryan Tubridy's show on Virgin Radio UK this morning, David revealed he has spoken to co-star Matt. "I saw him today," he shared. "We just had a meeting with Netflix, which is very exciting… We've got a few ideas that we're developing and it's exciting and so we want to do something on stage. We want to do something as a podcast we've just started working on and we obviously want to do something on TV."

David's son has started to watch his comedies as he said: "I didn't show him anything because I thought, ‘Right. Okay. You need to sit down and watch Daddy’s stuff’. I didn't want to do that, but obviously he’s now of school age where they're all talking about it and sharing it, and he’s into it.

"But it's interesting how that generation and sort of teenagers are actually getting into things like Little Britain and Come Fly with Me, lots of sketch comedy because they can share it as clips. And it suits that. People are doing great work now, but very few people are doing sketch shows. Very few people are doing characters. There's lots of comedy dramas which are fantastic. Some sitcoms, but there's nothing like that. And it's also great that it's, you know, still making people laugh.”

Revealing his plans for Little Britain, David recently told the Daily Star : "I'm sure at some point we're going to revisit the show. I'm sure we'll tour live again. Me and Matt would love to do it again. The only problem is Matt's lost about eight stone, so all the characters are going to look a lot thinner!" He added: "When you talk to people in TV, they're like 'Well we're not looking for that at the moment.'"
