EastEnders aired a killer twist on Christmas Day as Cindy Beale was left for dead - but is she going to die, and who attacked her, with several suspects lined up
This Morning: EastEnders star teasing 'drama' in Albert SquareA bunch of EastEnders viewers were left on the edge of their seats this Christmas Day, as Cindy Beale was left lifeless in a shocking twist. The question on everyone's lips is whether she will be leaving the BBC soap.
After a brutal attack, her fate hangs in the balance. Cindy, played by Michelle Collins, had made several enemies, and there were ominous hints throughout the night about her impending doom.
Her affair with Junior Knight was exposed through an audio clip played to the entire pub, leaving Ian Beale heartbroken. Colin Salmon's character George Knight, her ex, was appalled by her relationship with his son and hinted at lingering feelings for Cindy, causing tension with his partner Elaine Peacock.
Junior was left feeling used when he discovered that Cindy was merely having fun with him and was actually in love with George. As the Beales and Knights grappled with the fallout, family members turned against each other, with Lauren Branning, who orchestrated Cindy's downfall, facing the anger of Cindy and her family.
Lauren's partner Peter Beale labelled her revenge against Cindy as "toxic" after she was reminded of the dramatic moment in 2007 when she exposed her father Max Branning's affair with Stacey Slater by playing a DVD on Christmas Day. Lauren, struggling with a painkiller addiction, was once again left out in the cold and found herself tempted by pills, reports the Mirror.
As the episode progressed, every character, including Cindy's children Anna, Gina, and Peter, turned against her one by one. Cindy, desperate and pleading for another chance, was rejected by Ian, who saw through her attempts and physically threw her out of their home.
Earlier, Cindy had a heated confrontation with Elaine, Peter, Lauren, Gina, Junior, Anna, George, and her mother-in-law Kathy Beale, during which she claimed Ian was the man for her and hurled insults at each of them, leaving her children in tears and Elaine furious. Cindy told them she didn't care about any of them and never wanted to see them again, a wish that may have been granted by the end of the episode.
As Cindy wandered aimlessly through the Square, a mysterious figure exacted a deadly revenge by striking her over the head with a large metal spade, leaving her lifeless on the ground. The episode ended with a cliffhanger, leaving viewers wondering if Cindy is indeed dead.
Throughout the episode, there were hints at a possible demise, including Cindy's own words about never wanting to see her loved ones again and her self-destructive behaviour. Kathy issued a chilling threat, Lauren declared she was "done" with her, and Elaine dished out some sinister remarks.
Gina, Peter and even Ian rejected her, with Ian coldly dismissing her saying: "Who cares if you live or die."
The tension escalated as all suspects, from George to Ian, Junior, and the rest, were seen seething with fury, setting up an intense whodunnit scenario.
