TV star Derryn Hinch has revealed he suffered a horror accident which left him beaten, bruised, and with black eyes.
The 80-year-old New Zealander, known for hosting Australian panel television talk show Beauty and the Beast in the 1980s, took to social media over the festive season to share details of his horror fall. The star delayed telling his fans of the news due to Christmas Day celebrations.
But on Boxing Day, he took to Facebook to share a photograph of himself and his partner Lynda Stoner - with injuries clear for all to see. While Derryn was upright and smiling, he was posing with painful looking injuries all over his face.
Explaining his appearance, the Kiwi star wrote: "I didn't post this pic earlier because I did not want to pass on bad news at Christmas. I had a pre-Xmas fall, smacked my nose and, as a consequence, blacked both my eyes. Looked like I lost ten rounds with Lionel Rose. So, this was my Christmas Day pic with Lynda."

Facebook)Fans and social media followers were quick to respond to the post and to offer support to the TV star. One wrote: "Look after yourself." Another wrote: "Take care and a quick recovery." A further fan wrote: "Glad you didn't let this ruin your time... best wishes." And another typed: "Oh Derryn we are sending big hugs... hope you are doing ok."
Derryn and Lynda have had a decades long relationship that stretches back to a 1981 engagement - although they never married. He has been married four times - first to Lana Wells from 1965 until their divorce in 1970, then to Eve Carpenter from 1972 until their divorce in 1980. His next wife was Jacki Weaver, who he was married to from 1983 until 1996 - but then they remarried in 1997 only to divorce for good in 1998).
Wife number four was Chanel Hayton, who he wed in 2006 and then divorced in 2012. Derryn and Lynda rekindled their relationship in 2016 and have been going strong ever since. His fall comes just weeks after he was admitted to hospital with a heart issue. Speaking about his health issues, Derryn told the Herald Sun: "I found myself getting short of breath and I thought, 'This is not normal.'
"My cardiologist booked me into hospital and on Thursday they gave me an electric shock to the heart, which is pretty scary, but it worked' he continued. It put my heart back into a regular rhythm and I will just see how it improves my breathing in the weeks ahead." His heart issues came after a battle with skin cancer - which included the need to undergo five weeks of daily radiation treatment.
He told the Herald Sun previously: "It is not good. I have had two operations on my face and they still have to do radiation. The only good news is they looked at a spot that I was operated on about eight years ago on the other side (of his forehead) and that is clear. I tick off each day and once that day is gone, it is gone. It is pretty serious but as someone once said, that's life."
