In an interview with Robin Roberts on Good Morning America, he said: I unfortunately lost my eye sight in my right eye in July because I had an infection in the South of France."

The superstar added: “It’s been four months now since I haven’t been able to see. My left eye is not the greatest. It’s been a while since I’ve done anything. I just have to get off my backside.”

Speaking on the US breakfast show to promote his latest documentary, Elton John: Its Never Too Late, the superstar singer said that losing his vision has derailed him, but suggested that it should improve over time.

“It kind of floored me, and I can’t see anything. I can’t read anything, I can’t watch anything. There’s hope and encouragement that it will be okay. But I’m kind of stuck in the moment, going into the studio and recording, I don’t know. Because I can’t see a lyric for start.”

Elton first gave an insight into his vision problem with a post on social media back in September, when he revealed that he was suffering from a serious optic infection that left him with limited vision in one of his eyes.

He said: “I am healing, but it’s an extremely slow process and it will take some time before sight returns to the impacted eye.”

The documentary which is directed by Elton’s husband, the filmmaker David Furnish, and celebrated documentarian, RJ Cutler, takes a close up at The Rocketman’s 50 year career, culminating in his last north America show at the Dodger Stadium in 2022.

But despite his health woes, the musician still describes himself as ‘the luckiest man in the world and said he was grateful for his success.

He says: “I’m so proud of the documentary. I’m proud of my sons. I’m proud of my attitude towards myself and what’s going on,” he said. “I’m just very lucky and I’m very grateful.”

The Yellow Brick road singer has faced various health challenges over the years, having undergone knee and hip replacement surgeries.

He was also reportedly had a pacemaker fitted in the 90s and was hospitalized for a bacterial infection in 2009, as well as a bad bout of gastric flu in 2016.

Indeed years of touring and live shows have also left him with hearing loss, but it seems that for now, the father-of-two is still standing.

The Elton John documentary, Never Too Late, will be available to stream from the Disney channel from December 13th.
