Fans think GTA 6 update is imminent

Certain video game fans waiting for GTA 6 reckon an update on the latest Grand Theft Auto release is imminent after Rockstar registered a new trademark.

Set to be released in 2025, GTA 6 is set to be the biggest selling video game of all time with industry experts expecting it to hit the record books for a whole load of reasons after setting new standards.

Gamers will play as Lucia when it finally drops, the first female protagonist in the GTA universe.

And with GTA 5 still having regularly updates to this day after its 2013 release, the lifespan of its successor is estimated to be at least 15 years of keeping enthusiasts happy.

Back in December 2023, the first trailer for GTA 6 was released with it officially the second most watched video game trailer of all time behind 2012's Subway Surfers; a game that has been downloaded some four billion times.

It's now been more than 12 months since any proper update was released by developer Rockstar, with the only update coming from parent company Take-Two.

In the autumn, it gave a company update in which it confirmed a GTA 6 release was still on the cards for autumn 2025.

Well, fans are hoping a second trailer - or a significant update of any kind - is now imminent after the very latest behind the scenes update from Rockstar.

This week, a brand new trademark was filed in Brazil by the game developer. Alongside this came a subtle but exciting change.

Ladies and gentlemen, we have got a new GTA 6 logo.

On the trademark itself, it shows that the company is gearing up for commercial activity in the country. This could be merchandise, clothing, or other trinkets that fans of the franchise would be interested in.

And as for the logo. Well some fans think it could be a signal that Rockstar is gearing up to reveal more.

While the logo is not totally new, it shows palm trees added to the back of the 'VI' logo behind the words 'Grand Theft Auto'. Subtle, yes. But given Rockstar's history of teasing things and hiding Easter eggs, fans are clinging to it.

"I mean the logo is not bad but I really wished they went with the tradition of having numbers in bottom right corner," one fan said.

Over on Reddit, though, one user - who says he is an intellectual property lawyer - said Rockstar's moves are likely little to do with any real updates on the game or a new trailer.

"Now I am not saying that trailer two isn’t close, but to be honest if Take-Two is getting GTA 6 trademark registered then that really doesn’t have much to do with it," they posted.

"It’s just a company protecting its brand and mark. Let's hope it comes soon, though!"

Fans remain hopeful, though, with the pattern echoing one similar to the build up to Red Dead Redemption 2's second trailer.

Some 12 days before that dropped, Rockstar starting copyrighting logos for the game across countries. The same happened in a similar time frame to GTA 5. Could it come for New Year's Eve or Day? What a start to 2025 that would be.
