Fearne Cotton made telling comment about her marriage before shock split from Jesse Wood

Fearne Cotton has revealed she has split from husband of 10 years Jesse Wood. The presenter has previously been open about the couple's relationship

Fearne Cotton made the shock announcement that she has split from husband Jesse Wood on Friday night.

The pair, who had been married for 10 years and share two kids together, are separating just days after Fearne revealed she had surgery to remove two benign tumours from her jaw. She is currently recovering from the surgery.

In her statement on Instagram to explain their spit, she said: "It is with a heavy heart that I let you all know that Jesse and I are ending our marriage. Our priority has been, and will always be, our children. We please ask that you respect the privacy of our family at this time."

TV presenter and podcast host Fearne has been open about her marriage in the past. In one telling comment, she explained how she was not "living this perfect, fairy-tale life". However, at the time she admitted the couple were as strong as ever, despite speculation suggesting otherwise.

The comment came in 2019 after she had published an article in Red Magazine. In her column, she had revealed she and Jesse had gone through a rocky patch a year earlier. She explained how Jesse's touring with his band, Reef, was taking its toll, while she was still intent on keeping her own career going while looking after the kids.

But she confessed her open comments weren't meaning they were still struggling. Speaking to the Telegraph, she said: "I wrote that article to go "what a load of s**t". Every marriage takes work . It doesn't dilute our love or make our marriage any weaker, it actually makes it stronger because we're willing to have those conversations."

And she added she did say to try to clear up the speculation, continuing: "My teenage stepchildren are old enough to scour the internet freely and I just thought I don't want them reading that and thinking Jesse and I are having struggles and haven't told them because we're an extremely honest family. I'm happy to share the good and bad bits of myself because, of course, I'm not living this perfect, fairytale life."

The star also revealed recently how tensions were high between the couple during lockdown. Speaking on her Happy Place podcast, Fearne said: “I am a very fiery ­person, and Jesse can also be quite fiery. We’ve certainly argued in front of the kids. Most parents have at some point. It’s not regular but we have definitely had a pop at each other in front of them — and you don’t feel good about it after."

Podcaster Fearne and Jesse, son of Rolling Stones rocker Ronnie Wood, had tied the knot in a sweet ceremony surrounded by their family and friends - including Holly Willoughby - in 2014. The former couple share two children together and Jesse is also a father to two older kids from a previous relationship.
