Alien: Earth official trailer starring Alex Lawther and Timothy Olyphant

Alien fans are disappointed with the new instalment.

Alien: Earth is set to be released this summer and a new teaser trailer was recently posted online. However, fans of the sci-fi horror franchise have been quick to criticise what we've seen so far.

The teaser showed a Facehugger crawling throughout a space ship, making itS way toward a circular window before smacking against it. The camera then zooms out to reveal that the ship is hurtling toward Earth at an alarming rate before the title card flashes.

Quickly scrolling down to the comment section on YouTube, one person noted: "This looked more like a trailer for a game than a series," while another added: "Yeah I hope this is not what the CGI in the show looks like. This looks like an actual video game."

One unimpressed Alien fan quipped: "Nothing photorealistic in this video, it looks like a trailer for [the] Alien Isolation game from 10 years ago, truly terrible way to introduce new series."

Others agreed that the trailer looked like a game as someone defended the video: "We'll have to wait and see I guess, maybe the full trailer will give us a better look into how the show will actually be."

Another person chimed in that the clip was "just a teaser" to reassure doubtful fans. "I think it's because of the camera movement more than anything else. If you freeze frame it, the set looks pretty legit," suggested another viewer.

Alien: Earth premieres this summer and follows a young woman, played by Sydney Chandler, along with a group of soldiers as they discover a mysterious space vessel that crash-lands on our planet.

The series is written and directed by Noah Hawley, and will serve as a prequel to 1979's groundbreaking horror classic Alien.

Alien: Earth is set to be released just a year after Alien: Romulus, a 2024 film that is set between the events of Alien and Aliens.
