"Evacuation mandates were sent across the city. My aunt Meryl Streep received an order to evacuate on January 8, but when she tried to leave, she discovered that a large tree had fallen over in her driveway, blocking her only exit," he explained.
"Determined to make it out, she borrowed wire cutters from a neighbour, cut a car-size hole in the fence she shared with the neighbours on the other side and drove through their yard to escape."
Celebrities who have lost their homes in LA's fires
The writer painted a terrifying picture of destruction and fear following the fires in LA's Pacific Palisades and Altadena communities that have displaced thousands of people.
"Nearly 200,000 people would receive evacuation orders as, in the coming days, new fires started near the Hollywood Hills and Calabasas.

"The whole city felt the threat of imminent displacement. Schools closed, traffic lights went dark amid power outages, and companies that provide water in Altadena and adjacent neighbourhoods warned against drinking it," he added.
"L.A.'s highways, normally full of traffic, became vast empty speedways."

Abe went on to detail the experiences of Streep's Only Murders in the Building co-star Martin Short and actor Haley Joel Osment.
The actor told the publication he could rescue family photos while evacuating his Pacific Palisades home.
After one of Short's sons suggested he evacuate, the star spent over an hour attempting to free himself from the Pacific Palisades.

The Sixth Sense star Osment had only just returned to his home when the Eaton Fires began. He tragically lost a piano gifted by his parents on his 18th birthday and 500 records.
"Not to cast blame or anything, but I just want to know, when this is all investigated – was there a decision to just let the whole neighbourhood go?" Osment told the publication.
