FROZEN fans can’t believe a huge sitcom star was originally cast to play Elsa.
The Disney blockbuster, which tells the story of Snow Queen Elsa, her loveable, goofy sister Anna and Olaf the snowman, became an instant classic when it premiered in November 2013.
It earned a staggering $1.2billion (£972million) worldwide and became the fifth highest-grossing film of all time – and by far the most profitable animation.
And over a decade on Frozen is still melting hearts.
But fans might not know that there was another name in the mix when it came to Elsa.
Elsa is played by Idina Menzel – an American actress and singer.
But an early table read saw Megan Mullally, who plays Karen in Will and Grace, going up for the role.
And the time, it was titled Anna and the Snow Queen.
But the role ended up going to Idina, and as a result she’s become a part of one of the biggest movies ever made.
The touching story of sisterhood isn’t Frozen’s only draw.
There is absolutely no doubt that the music is also a massive part of the movie’s appeal.
The soundtrack has garnered more than a million sales, and albums from the first and second films combined have had more than 4billion streams on Spotify — more than Ed Sheeran’s debut album, +.
Disney's Frozen sees Anna sing For the First Time in Forever
Idina captured kids around the world singing the Oscar and Grammy Award-winning song Let It Go in Frozen in 2013.
She spoke and sang for the character of ice queen Elsa, with actress Kristen Bell voicing her sister, Anna
And a musical movie this big was always going to be turned into a stage show.
And having opened in the West End in September 2021, it has become just as big a hit as the film.
As of last year, some 1.5million Frozen fans had been to see the London theatre production.
