Full List of Republicans Who Blocked Matt Gaetz Ethics Report Release

2 weeks ago 5

The House of Representatives has voted to prevent the publication of its ethics committee's report examining allegations of illegal activity by former Republican representative Matt Gaetz.

Lawmakers voted 206 to 198 on Wednesday to block the release of the report, which details various allegations against Gaetz—including sexual misconduct involving a 17-year-old girl, illicit drug use, the misuse of campaign funds, and obstruction of a House investigation. Gaetz has denied all claims against him.

Republicans closed ranks around the former Florida congressman. Of 220 GOP representatives in the House, 206 voted in favor of blocking the report, while fourteen abstained from the vote. Democrats voted unanimously in favor of the report being released.

While the investigation into his conduct has been ongoing for several years, President-elect Donald Trump's nomination of Gaetz to be Attorney General in the next administration brought the issue to the forefront in recent weeks. Gaetz subsequently decided to withdraw from the nomination process when it became evident that he lacked sufficient support from senators to survive a confirmation hearing.
