Celebrity chef Gino D'Acampo revealed how the deaths of his parents at a relatively young age led him to make a major life decision.

Chatting to Kate Thornton on her White Wine Question Time podcast, the 48-year-old revealed that the pair of tragedies made him decide to make the choice to refuse to do one thing.

After Kate asked him about some of the things that were his 'big no-go’s' and that he was totally unwilling to budge on, Gino said: "I will not budge on working on my holidays. From the 15th June until the 15th September, I do not care who you are, how much money you have got, how big the show is, I do not care.

"And, I've said no to the biggest show that you can think of, nationally and internationally."

But, after Kate probed him further as to why he is completely unwilling to consider work opportunities whilst on holiday, the celebrity chef added: "I lost my parents when they were very young, both of them in their 60s, so I didn't have a mum and dad when I was about 35 or 36-years-old."

He added: "What happened at that point Kate, I started to think, could life be shorter than what I think or what we believe? I really started to believe that life is not as long as we think, and that was the moment that I thought, okay, I have the money, I made a few money in the bank, so I don't have to worry about it.

"Now what is it that I want to do with my life? Do I want to bank more money or do I want to bank more memories?"

Having featured in a variety of tv shows down the years, it has been reported that the chef is currently working alongside fellow chef and friend, Fred Sirieix on a new show that is set to follow the pair as they travel around Europe in a mission to eat more sustainably.

Having been born and raised in Torre Del Greco in Italy, Gino moved to the UK in 1995, aged 19 where he worked in restaurants in London and Surrey. In the following years, the chef's career would go from strength to strength with a number of cookery books and tv shows to follow.
