When The Golden Bachelor stars Theresa Nist and Gerry Turner announced their divorce just three months after their January 2024 televised wedding, fans went into a tailspin. What went wrong in the relationship? Well, Nist is revealing that there is more to the story than what viewers had been led to believe.
On the Nov. 5 episode of the Almost Famous podcast, she hinted that there was a lot going on in her relationship with Turner behind the scenes. “You really can’t know somebody in four weeks. I’ll say that. That’s all I can say,” the 71-year-old reality star shared. “I don’t want to say any more than that.”

Nist admitted that she’s not ready to talk about the full extent of her breakup, but noted, “It’s not just the location thing. That’s all I’ll say.” The former duo married on Jan. 4 after getting engaged live on TV in November 2023. Within three months of their nuptials, they told the world that the marriage wasn’t going to work out during a Good Morning America appearance.
“The thing that strikes me the most in our conversations is how dedicated both of us are to our families,” Turner said. “So, we look at these situations and I think we just feel like it’s best, for the happiness of each of us, to live apart.”
Nist added, “We looked at homes in South Carolina. We considered New Jersey. We just looked at home after home, but we never got to the point where we made that decision.” Still, there seems to be more to the situation and fans are wondering if it has to do with The Hollywood Reporter‘s deep dive into Turner’s dating past.
On Nov. 29, 2023, the publication revealed that Turner wasn’t a “retired restaurateur” as ABC had claimed, and his dating history was more active than the “grieving bachelor” they portrayed. Perhaps Nist has more to say about those revelations when she’s ready to talk about the marriage.

In the end, Nist feels like the network rushed the couple into deciding about the fully-paid-for dream wedding. “They weren’t offering [the wedding] later. It was now. And we said, ‘If we really are going to get married, we should do it because we’re going to get the wedding of our dreams.’ We are older, why waste any time? Do it now,” she said on the podcast. “There was a time constraint on the offer.” Nist probably wishes she had waited a beat to get to know the real Turner.
