Grapes stayed crunchy for 10 days with incredible fridge purifier - and it's on sale (Image: Shelfy)
Food waste is common in the UK, with fruits and vegetables among the most thrown-away items.
In fact, the UK produces the largest amount of food waste in Europe, with the average household spending £470 on food, which ends up in the bin every year.
This is because they often go off very quickly if they are not stored properly or are purchased with a short shelf-life.
I’ve tried many storage hacks over the years to try and lengthen my food’s lifespan, but I’ve never tried a device before, until Shelfy.
Shelfy is a revolutionary smart device built to reduce bacteria from the fridge as well as remove unpleasant odours.

With its air purification technology, Shelfy claims to extend shelf life by up to 12 days and reduce circulating bacteria by 99 percent in just 10 minutes.
The device also slows down the ripening process by delaying the appearance of wilt and mould on foods.
As well as this, this incredible device removes odours to help keep a fridge smelling clean.
I was so excited to try this out, it was easy to set up and connects to an app. The app tells you when you need to clean the filter, and clean the fridge as well as the temperature of your fridge.
The device also has a door opening sensor, so it tracks how many times the fridge door is opened in one day to enhance efficiency.
Users can control the device using Google Home and Alexa as well as the Vitesy Hub app, offering a range of food storage tips to get the best results with the device.

This device sounded exactly like what I was looking for and it didn’t disappoint me in the slightest.
Its sleek design goes undetectable in the fridge and it doesn’t take up a lot of space.
I loved checking in on the app to keep on top of the fridge temperature as well as when it was time to clean the fridge and filter.
But the real test was if it kept my food fresher for longer and it definitely did.
You can keep it in different areas of the fridge, including the crisper drawer but I kept it in the middle to help lengthen the lifespan of day-to-day produce.
My fruits were riper for many more days than they usually would be, with blueberries remaining hard, strawberries remaining mould-free and raspberries still looking as good as the day I bought them.
My grapes were also crunchy after 10 days which I’ve never had the joy of experiencing before.
I also had some fresh onion in the fridge, which usually infects the whole fridge with odour, as well as other foods, but this was non-existent, which was incredible.
Thanks to the device’s photocatalytic technology, it doesn’t need replacement filters which is a huge bonus for me as it’s just the initial expense of the device.
However, it doesn’t come cheap, with Shelfy retailing for a whopping £149 on their website, but it is currently reduced to £89.
It’s currently available on Amazon for £119 with free delivery, but if you have Prime, you can get it for £89.
I think it is definitely worth it, considering the average household wastes more than £400 worth of food each year, but it’s definitely a luxury product and not a necessity.
I also wish the battery life was slightly longer as it only lasts three weeks, which rolls around very quickly and it’s easy to forget to charge it.
There are a number of fridge deodorising items and items to help keep food fresher for longer on the market, but nothing like Shelfy which connects to an app.
This includes the Kikkerland Reusable Fridge Fresheners for £8 which work by adding baking soda to lemons or limes to keep them fresher for longer.
Waitrose & Partners also sell the Acana Natural Fridge Odour Absorber which has a natural hint of lemon and lasts for 12 weeks.
