Television presenter Si King has shared the real reason why fellow Hairy Biker Dave Myers kept filming despite his cancer diagnosis.

Si, 58, told the Off Air with Jane & Fi podcast about his experience of working with his late co-collaborator – who died from cancer earlier this year - on their final show together and how Dave had been determined to get the programme made despite the distress being caused to him by his condition.

He explained: “It was incredibly cathartic for him that last series, he so wanted to do it. He would have. It would have been a pretty devastating blow if he couldn’t have finished it I think.

“It wasn’t easy for any of us. I think it was very difficult for everybody because we could see some days that Dave was very distressed…He was poorly but he absolutely wanted to be there, he didn’t want to be anywhere else.”

Si's comments came ahead of a documentary due to be aired this Christmas titled 'The Hairy Bikers: You'll Never Ride Alone' that looks back on the iconic duo's time together.

Si also took some time to further praise his late-colleague and co-collaborator for the effort he put in despite the odds stacked against him.

He said: “Anybody that knew him knew you always got a heart and soul performance with Dave. He had that ability just to turn it on and his timing was always immaculate.

"That was the remarkable thing about Dave because we hadn’t long finished the series and the gargantuan effort that that man put in was nothing short of miraculous.

“Whether you’re poorly or not the schedule needs to be achieved. Everyone around him was as gentle as one could be but we still needed a programme to be made because we’d had the commission, but he was remarkable, he loved it, it was who he was, it was what he wanted to do.”

Speaking to the Sun about the documentary, set to be released this Christmas, Si said: “It was important to celebrate the man and what he'd achieved and it was also important to give our audience a goodbye as well.

“Dave Day was a perfect example of that. Woody and Lil organised that and it was perfection. We're all so sorry that we're here in these circumstances but it was a celebration of that show.

“There's lots of joy in that show but that was Dave. He was a joyous man. He embraced and loved the life that he led and that was enormously important to him.”
