Mariah Carey is one of the hardest vocalists to replicate because of her five octave range and whistle register. However, there are a select few singers who can do her justice—Ariana Grande, Tori Kelly, Liamani—and also, Halle Bailey.
Fans asked the “Angel” singer to cover Carey’s timeless 1997 ballad, “My All,” and Bailey obliged.
She expressed on Instagram, “This is a really hard song to sing but I tried cause yall asked,” and she made fans proud.
With Halo just out of frame — he made sure to peek his fingers through to make us aware of his presence— Bailey rifted into the heavens with her dreamy voice as she performed her version over an instrumental.
Fans praised her cover. One commented, “I love all those subtle nuanced changes in there. You hit every single note and still somehow made it your very own. Bravo mama Bravo.”
Another replied, “Beautiful. Listening to u sing makes me want to just close my eyes and take it all in.”
Meanwhile, others including Kid Fury put in their requests for more covers. The Read host requested “I’m Not That Girl” from Wicked and someone else begged Bailey to put her spin on Tamia’s “Stranger In My House” and India.Arie’s “Ready For Love.”
The six-time Grammy nominee recently hosted a sold-out, two-night residency at the Sun Rose in West Hollywood, making it the first time she’s ever performed solo.
She performed six songs including “Angel,” “In Your Hands,” and “Because I Love You,” but kicked off her intimate show with a breathtaking cover of Etta James‘ “Fool That I Am.” She also previewed new music— an empowering single titled “Brave Face.“
