I’ll be honest. I wasn’t always sure about Mia Thornton’s spot on the Real Housewives of Potomac. She often rubbed me the wrong way, as it felt like she started drama for no reason. She had a hard time being accepted into this group of ladies. Not to mention, her sketchy relationship with Gordon Thornton was always questionable. But the Mia I’ve been watching in Season 9 has me singing a different tune. She is the only one asking the tough questions regarding Karen Huger’s DUI; it is a breath of fresh air. So is Mia the unsung hero of the season?
Mia Thornton is the bone collector of RHOP
There is no doubt in my mind that Mia is not only a superb cherry blossom but the bone collector for the group. To whip out a three-year-old story revolving around Karen drunk dialing and possibly cheating on her husband is a pretty gigantic way to throw down. Mia isn’t backing down in sharing her disappointment in Karen. She told Pride “When I heard her say I wasn’t Potomac, I legit was so unbothered. The Grande Dame… the bar is so high! Who can’t get a DUI? I think we all are capable of that. I guess we’re all Potomac! She has mugshots… not me. Maybe that’s the criteria.”
Prior to Season 9, Karen had been teasing a “tense” moment between the two. But Mia quickly deflected the comment and shaded Karen. She told the outlet, “The tensest moment was her swinging around a tree, for heaven’s sake! She was talking about herself. What moment? You and the deer? That was the most excitement that I remember.” Honestly, I am living for Mia’s reads on the Grand Dame. Keep them coming.
Mia Thornton is asking the tough questions
To be honest, I was pretty surprised that Karen was bold enough to try to criticize anyone, let alone Mia, especially when she entered Season 9 with her second DUI. Mia has refused to stay silent and often called out the double standard that occurs on the Real Housewives of Potomac. During a Watch What Happens Live appearance over a year ago, it was clear Mia was gearing up to become a powerhouse for Season 9. Mia noted that she often is held to a different standard than some of the other ladies.
She’s asked tough questions in the past, too, and Karen hasn’t been her only target. When Juan Dixon was called out for being in a hotel room with a woman who wasn’t his wife, Mia grilled him. During a cooking class, she questioned why he would think it was a good idea to go to the hotel and pay with his credit card. Mia is all about understanding the dynamic of another’s stories, and we are seeing more and more of this during Season 9.
Mia Thornton is caught in a love triangle
I don’t know about you, but Mia is giving me the love triangle I never knew I needed. Real Housewives of Potomac viewers learned that Gordon, Mia’s ex had moved into the same apartment building to try and co-parent. Fans also learned that Mia and her boyfriend, Inc, fold and fluff G’s underwear. When I say my jaw hit the floor on that revelation. Even though Mia has tried to go after others, her mess spills over into the outside world.
Recently Mia took to her Instagram to share some information about Gordon. In a now-deleted Instagram post, Mia wrote, “TO CAPTURE A PREDATOR YOU CAN’T REMAIN THE PREY.” The mother of three opened up about her life with Gordon, writing she felt “trapped and confused.” Mia shared that she once walked in on Gordon, “having sex and making out with a friend of mine,” adding, “So I followed my heart and ran back to my love INC.” Mia has been nothing if not consistent. The season has shown her delivering episode after episode, and I can’t wait to see what Mia throws out next.
