As the new year gets underway, many people are embarking on home renovation projects, and one often-debated DIY task is painting doors a colour other than traditional white.
Home interiors enthusiast Val, known as @thegroundedhome_ on Instagram, is encouraging people to be bold and think outside the box when it comes to door colour.
With 20,600 followers online, Val shares her expertise on transforming homes with thrifted and second-hand items. Having recently moved into her "dream 1920s home", she frequently posts updates on her home makeover.
In a recent reel, Val was seen painting her doors a sophisticated grey hue, captioning it: "Let this be your sign if you have all white doors in your home... to not be afraid to paint them a different colour this year."
The finished result showcased elegant grey doors paired with sleek door knobs. Val provided more details on the transformation, revealing: "We chose the colour 'Studio Clay SW 9172' by @sherwinwilliams in semi-gloss finish.
She also have some advice, adding: "Don't forget to prime your door first as well."
Reflecting on the transformation, Val confessed: "I was so scared to paint our hallway doors last year, but so glad I did and so sad I waited so long now."
The post garnered over 43,000 likes, with fans adoring the new look of her doors.

The DIY community was abuzz with inquiry, as one follower asked: "Do you sand the door first?" Val responded with a handy tip, saying: " I just primed it instead and that worked out great and used a mini foam roller to prevent drips."
This provoked further curiosity as another person probed: "So many questions – did you do all doors? Both sides?" To which Val clarified her process, writing: "I just did one side for all the doors facing towards the hallway."
A third commenter also exclaimed: "Love this! I've heard the debate that door colour needs to match trim colour, but glad to see you kept your trim white because I like white trim with coloured doors but the naysayers had me conflicted."
