Huge British rock band lead teases reunion over 10 years since their last album

Girls Aloud and the Libertines have been among the music groups who have reformed in recent years, but it has now been teased that another band will get back together

A reunion tour and new music have been teased by the lead vocalist of a rock band ahead of a milestone anniversary.

Pete Doherty, 45, has shared that band Babyshambles "will get back together" after having not released an album in over a decade. The musician added that he wrote a song recently that he thinks would work well for the group.

His comments come ahead of their debut album, Down in Albion, released in 2005, celebrating its 20th anniversary next year. Pete was bandmates with Drew McConnell, now 46, and Patrick Walden, now 46, when the album came out.

Asked about the prospect of a reunion tour, Pete - who formed the band whilst on a break from the Libertines - told NME that it is "on the card". He continued: "We will get back together and get in a room with the instruments and play through the old songs, then get on stage and do it."

Pete said that it's the 'who' and the 'when' that "needs to be worked out" though. There were various line-up changes over the years, with the band having also included the likes of Mick Whitnall, now 56, and Adam Ficek, now 50.

Pete said that they will "keep that one on the horizon" and deal with it next year. He added that in the meantime he has a "new collection of songs" that he's putting out on his own record label, which he described as "tidy".

When asked if he would like to make another Babyshambles album, Pete said that he "no idea". He however added that he wrote a song recently that he thinks would "really work" for the band. He went on to state in the interview: "It's a long way off yet. It's going to be next Autumn, so we'll see."

Babyshambles - who have played a host of festivals like Glastonbury over the years and had their own tours - haven't released a new album since their third album Sequel to the Prequel came out in 2013. The band had previously released debut Down in Albion and follow-up Shotter's Nation in 2005 and 2007 respectively.

The prospect of a Babyshambles reunion and new music comes after Pete reformed his other band, the Libertines, earlier this year to release their first album in a almost a decade. All Quiet on the Eastern Esplanade was released in April and topped the Official Albums Chart in the UK.

The Libertines are set to continue touring next year. Their schedule includes a concert at Gunnersbury Park in London on August 9. They will be joined at the gig by other acts like Supergrass, who are among their special guests.
